The starter kits come with a Link Hub, 1 Link Hub can support 14 fans (7 per side, and it can do more but the lighting brightness diminishes to compensate iirc) and the hub is powered via a PCIE cable. You could buy 1 starter kit and 6x single fans if that’s cheaper overall, just note that the single fans come with a short link cable (to bridge to fans/devices that aren’t magnetically connected) while the starter kit has a short link cable and a long link cable, so it may be worth the extra to get multiples of the longer link cables pending your fan placements (you can also buy longer link cables individually - you’ll probably want at least 2x of the longer cable). Pending overall cost, maybe do 2x starter kits and 3x individuals, you’ll have an extra hub “just in case” but will have 2x of the longer cables More on reddit.com

If you’re investing in Link fans buy a Link AIO. The link AIO will connect to the same hub as the Link fans. The Commander Core will connect legacy fans, AIOs and Corsair case rgb. If you don’t want to buy a Link AIO, then don’t bother with link fans and buy older model non link ones and save yourself some money. Link is next generation and dramatically reduces cables. And if you’re buying fresh, I’d go all in online. Actually I did. I only use the commander core for my 5000t case rgb. I’d like to see a solution for that by the way if anyone from Corsair sees this. The 3 packs come with 1x 600mm Cable with straight-90 connectors, the Single fans come with 1x 135mm Cable with 90-90 Connectors. Assuming you'll install the single on the rear, 3 at top and 3 at front or side, You'll connect the single to the top 3 with the 135mm cable, the top 3 to a port on the link-hub with the 600mm, the other 3 connect to the other port of the hub with the other 600mm. You'll need an available USB header to connect the hub and a PCIe 6+2 power cable. More on reddit.com

fuck no, the software is fine, but the fact that corsair uses non-standard argb connectors means you're overpaying for parts that arent compatible with everything else. same with nzxt. I never recommend them More on reddit.com

June 27, 2023 - Rather than having a power connector on the pump head, the power is deftly routed through the outside of the liquid tube sleeves and into the 397mm x 120mm radiator, with its three, preinstalled QX120 RGB 120mm fans. I'd have to get that connected up to the System Hub using one of the many ports on the sides and bottom of the radiator, along with the collection of iCue Link QX RGB PWM fans I'd been sent with the starter kit. Each fan has a port on either side, to be snapped together with other fans, or chained to other components with Corsair's nifty proprietary power cables...

With these new fans that all directly connection together, the starter kit 3 fan set come with a little controller box. Will that box power and control 9 fans? If not, if I buy 3 kits, can you chain the included controllers together?
In summary, if I buy 3 starter kits to get 9 fans, does that include everything I need to make them all work in my case?

Yes, you only require 1 Link hub included with the starter pack to power and control all 9 fans, you might need additional cables depending on how you want to group and connect them. You'll also need an available USB header and a PCIE (6+2) power connector.

Hey everyone,
Building a new PC and with the Black friday Corsair products had good deals so I grabbed
Corsair iCUE H100i ELITE LCD XT
iCUE LINK QX120 RGB 120mm PWM PC Fans Starter Kit with iCUE LINK System Hub
Yet I do have a question about the Commander Core XT and the iCUE LINK System Hub.
I am not sure what these pieces plays role, shouldn't Commander Core be enough to connect it all? Do I still need to connect fans to System hub? Will it have any benefit, then connect that to the Commander Core?
I am having hard time to understand what would be the best approach, any help is appreciated.
Rest of the components are, Asus ROG STRIX B650E-F GAMING WIFI ATX AM5 mobo, NZXT H7 Flow and Ryzen 7 7800X3D.

The Commander Core would have been enough if you had gotten all Legacy fans, but as you are mixing QX ( new iCUE-Link) and a Elite LCD, you will need both the Commander Core and the Link hub to make it all work. software wise, both type of hardware can be controlled with the iCUE software.
