We have about 5000 sq ft of back yard, a solid 1000 of it is poison ivy. We will be hiring goats in the spring to eat it up.
We also have a maddening amount of annoyances in our neighborhood: mice (which thankfully we've finally flushed from our home), historically rats (thank God no current evidence), mosquitoes, mud daubers, and German yellow jackets, the latter two I'm allergic to.
We had enormous success at a previous home with hanging pots of regular peppermint to keep wasps away, I just kept having to trim them back because of the sneaky runners lol. The peppermint even attracted frogs which helped with the mosquitoes!!
Once the poison ivy is better under control, I'm considering smothering it with Corsican mint to repel all the pests as well. (I'll take any advice on the best way to approach eg cardboard mothering the poison ivy and planting the mint on top)
Do you think the mint lawn situation would make a difference? We're USDA Zone 6b.
Also my neighbors probably won't care - the poison ivy and rodents come from their sides. I don't think we have an "invasive plants" issue in my New England neighborhood either.
