I assume hardie plank is twice the material cost vs. average Vinyl siding?
For a 1,500 square foot new construction ranch vinyl siding came in between $13k-$15k.
What do you think I would cost for James Hardie Cement siding?

So, I’m building a home and have hit a snag. My contractor has informed me that we will not finish on time due to siding availability. He has 3 different options to choose from and I’m at an impasse. Vinyl siding (wrong color) at $0 increase, Hardie board facing with lap siding on sides and back of house at a $2500 increase (paint included), or Hardie board all around at $6500 increase (paint included). Which option would be the best or what are the pros and cons? This is our first home and I don’t want to choose wrong.
Hoping to get a gut check on the upgrade cost for vinyl (included) to hardie for my new build.
My build has approx 40-42 squares of exterior surface to cover. The home is pretty tall... approx 38ft tall to the ridge and has some minor complexity in the front with dormers.
I received a quote from the builder for +$50k to upgrade from vinyl to board and batten pre-finished hardie siding.
I am not too familiar with costs... so I am rough estimating the vinyl job is approx $25k ($600 per square, but is this accurate?) which would mean the total cost of the hardie job is approx $75k or ~$1800 per square.
Does this seem about right for the difference between the vinyl (included) and hardie cost?
My 23 year old house needs a new exterior. It currently has vinyl siding and I’m not a huge fan of it. I’m considering hardy board and I would like the sub Reddit’s opinion on which is better. Thanks and I appreciate the response.
