My main gripe is the heads seem like a downgrade, the V10 comes with a universal head, and they don't officially make anything else for it (but you can use other gen heads). The universal head kicks things like cat litter all over the place on tile or hardwood, whereas our V8 with choosing the bare floor head works better than the V10. April 4, 2024Dyson Cyclone V10 Animal + Cordless Vacuum on sale, is it worth it?
I bought this vacuum around 6 months ago. It is the best vacuum I have experienced. I have dogs that shed a lot, and it picks up the hair very well. I love the portability. The canister has to be emptied pretty frequently, but to me that is a fair tradeoff for not having to deal with a cord. It's much easier for me to more frequently vacuum a smaller mess versus a large mess infrequently. More on reddit.com

Price: Under $400 but tempted by higher-priced things. I'd like to spend as little as possible if there aren't huge differences between features.
Flooring: Wood and tile. No carpet. somewhere between 600-900 sq. ft, I don't remember.
Basically, I know the general consensus is that stick vacuums are garbage and won't last, but I'm looking for one anyway. I know they don't last the longest and aren't the strongest, but I would like a stick vacuum because the stairs & entryway to my apartment don't have any outlets and heavier+corded vacuums are too much to maneuver. I would also really like a vac that is convertible to a hand vac. I want to buy from Costco because of the return policy.

Extra stuff if you feel like reading it:
I live in a 1bd apartment, currently no pets. I have hardwood floors in my bedroom, living/dining room, hallways and stairs. Tile floor in kitchen, bathroom and entryway. I only have bathmats, no rugs, though I did buy a 4x6 wool one for my living room which I never put down. I have lots of allergies and should probably avoid direct contact with the dust bin as much as possible. I have an air purifier and don't wear shoes in my house but, obviously, things still get dusty and some dirt, especially because the floors are very old and have some gaps in them. I live on a very busy street and do get some street pollution coming inside if I leave the windows open.
I previously had these vacs and returned them when they failed on me:
Shark WV201CO WANDVAC Cordless Handheld Vacuum (purchased 2022, returned in 2023 because it wouldn't turn on anymore)
Shark Duo something or other which is no longer available. (purchased 2022, returned 2024 because it wasn't functioning properly-- would suck things up but nothing would make it into the dustbin)

Get the Samsung with clean base if you can afford it. The bespoke jet is amazing and the clean base starts to close the gap with corded, bagged vacuums. If you're super price conscious the tineco pure one x will work great so long as you regularly maintain the filters. But you have allergies so bagless filter maintenance is a nono for quality of life. Tineco has a wealth of replacement parts unlike shark. The Dyson and Samsung are functionally identical but I'd go Samsung for the telescopic wand and clean base. But at under $400 with only hard surfaces and wanting to clean stairs well: you really should just buy the Miele c1 direct suction. Costco vacillates on selling Miele canisters, but if yours does, just buy it. It'll last longer (up to 40 years), it's easier to maintain (no filter or bin washing), cleans better, is quieter, and has replacement parts and equipment out the wazoo. Cleaning stairs with a canister one handed is quite easy: the canister sits on a step and you just use the hose and attachment you like. (It's even easier two handed to hold the canister in one hand and just walk up the stairs as you clean, but not everyone can do that). And again for your allergies: when you buy and vacuum regularly with a Miele with the HEPA filtration your entire house will become dust free after a few deep cleans. You're your only dust generator and in a place with no rugs and Miele HEPA, you'll be set. You can always buy the turbo carpet attachment if you get thinner larger rugs. The Miele c1 canister is about 8lbs in hand, but it'll usually be trailing you on the floor, thus weight in the hand of a canister is less than that of a top-heavy stick vac. As for bags, Miele bags are smaller than Sebo but: my partner and I live with our cat in an 800sqft place with a lot of rugs over hard floor. I fill a Miele vacuum bag every 6-9 months (I sometimes clean houses on the side). Miele bags come in packs of 4 so I go through a $20 box of bags every 2 years, and I buy the HEPA filter every 2ish years. If you're willing to split from Costco you should 100% buy the Sebo K series canister Kombi from the Sebo website or another online dealer directly. They have a 7 year warranty... Which is quite nice. They have a higher engineering quality than a Miele, bigger bags, longer cords, cheaper bags & filters, but they have ~slightly lower suction than a Miele, and one step lesser filtration. Still HEPA however. The K series is their cheapest bc it's their oldest model with some usability quirks, but it's such a good price RN with the warranty and their quality. As a person with allergies buying bagless vacs is inviting trouble and throwing your money away. And it sounds like you've already had some vacuums fail you... I love carpets but plan to stay in apartments/cities for a while so I would buy the K3 or the E3 (with the carpet brush). The beauty of having a real (bagged corded) vacuum is that you can enjoy the luxury of carpets without the hygiene/allergen problem. I've owned sharks, Mieles, and Dysons: most vacuums can be good with a lot of work, only bagged vacs are easy & pleasant to use from the time you buy them to the time they die (10-40 years depending on brand/model). We had a Kenmore canister growing up that kicked the bucket at the 10 year mark, which seems about right for peoples experience with Kenmore, but they're cheaper than Sebo/Miele with some better features (electro brush), but they're certainly ~cheaper~. If you have a vacuum store near to where you are you should REALLY try out the Sebo and Miele canisters. The dealers can offer you a better price than is available online, and dealers specifically sell Miele models (the Homecare line) with 5 year warranties and extra tools. Once you feel them in hand, other vacuums begin to feel like garbage.
