I have soured on Dyson, even though all we own is a Dyson animal upright, a V8 and V10 sticks. They just seem like they are trying to feature bloat the hell out of every product. The price tag on some of their stuff is wild. For that reason, I pick the V10. The V10 has decent canister size, power, battery life, for a decent price point. My main gripe is the heads seem like a downgrade, the V10 comes with a universal head, and they don't officially make anything else for it (but you can use other gen heads). The universal head kicks things like cat litter all over the place on tile or hardwood, whereas our V8 with choosing the bare floor head works better than the V10. All of that said, the V10 with the V8 bare floor head works best of all, so we're likely just going to buy another generation bare floor head.

I plan on pulling the cord and getting my first Dyson vacuum this sale. I’ve narrowed it down to the v15 and v12 sold by Costco (so I have access to the flexible return policy if all goes awry), but the biggest factor holding me back from the v15 is the weight difference.
My understanding is v15 is more powerful, slightly better battery life and bin capacity, and comes with more attachments. However, v15 is around 15lbs and the v12 is around 5lbs.
In Canada, v15 is on sale for $780 and v12 for $675 so not a huge difference.
I live in a ranch-style house with a carpet upstairs, carpet stairs, and hard floors for the foyer and downstairs (with a rug here and there) so it’s pretty 50/50. I will also be using a central vacuum, and emptying the bin more isn’t a huge deal to me.
Which did you pick and why? Did the weight of the v15 keep you back? Is one more reliable than the other? Is it even worth going for the v15?

I bought the v12 absolute slim detect and its been good enough for my wife and me. 2 story house w/dog and hardwood floors and no problems with the battery. Need to empty the bin like 2-3times when vacuuming carpets that our dog lies on. V12 is really light and I like it

Costco's v15 because Costco's return policy is 10000x better than Dyson customer support. If anything ever goes wrong (it happens all the time), you can just take it back to costco, no box needed, and they will take it back no questions asked and you can pick up a brand new one off the rack. Dyson on the other hand will make you jump though hoops and perform a song and dance to get any resolution. I know from personal experience this is not just hearsay.
