20 mil wear layer and comes out to ~$2.16/sqft. I have 3 toddlers and a dog, curious if this will hold up to abuse. Wanted to get some advice before pulling the trigger as we’d need about 900 sq ft.

Here's what I do to test floors I haven't used before. Take a car key. A sharp one, not a rounded off key fob flip out key. An actual cut key. Try and scratch some in the store with it. You'd be surprised how often just light pressure will make a big mark in some lower quality stuff. I've also seen stuff that even pressing as hard as I could and really trying to make a mark, I couldn't.

I have an appointment scheduled today with the Costco Shaw flooring rep. I am looking to have the master & one bedroom recarpeted & possibly the stairs.
What has everyone's experience been? I honestly didn't think I was going to have the floors re-carpeted so soon, but after spending some time in my new home & seeing just how dirty the previous owners were, I think it;'s probably in my best interest to have this done sooner rather than later.
I'm interested in how folks found the price to be, the installation experience, and everything overall. Costco is now offering a 10% cash card so it seems like a good time on top of the filth ;). I haven't shopped this yet & am not sure I am going to spend the time doing so but maybe quick compare online against Lowes & Home Depot.

It depends. We ended up calling for this service as well and it was just the local carpet place that was the servicing company to come out and talk. Additionally, the carpet was a good $1 more per sq yd compared to other carpeting places. I'd make sure to comparison shop, this is one scenario where we beat the price by going elsewhere.

While we're on this, the products at Home Depot/Lowes/etc from big name brands (Armstrong/Bruce, Shaw, Mohawk, etc) are very often not of of the same quality you'll find from flooring companies. There is an aspect of Home Depot saying "we want a 3 1/4" solid hardwood product we can retail at $2.99/sf" and those companies will find a way to make something at that price point. We bought some LVP for a kitchen through Costco via Shaw and a local flooring company.

Looking at installing vinyl flooring in my basement. Costco seems to have decently priced vinyl flooring.
Does anyone have experience with either of these two brands offered by Costco Canada, Golden Select and Luxuria?
Generally speaking, how is the quality? Any major issues with installation or longevity?

I’m a professional installer. Have used Costco flooring dozens of times with great results. The locking system is no different (maybe stronger) than much of what is available at your retailer for almost double the cost. The specs are good-the wearlayer, the overall thickness, the pad quality. I prefer the Luxuria though. It’s the heaviest of what they’ve sold in recent years. Very dense core. Solid lock. I’m installing some right now and have another job upcoming with it. As far as “your retailer will have more in a year when you need it”….ive seen that be untrue so many times it’s not funny. Manufacturers drop colours and entire lines whenever they feel like it. As someone who purchases from retailers also, there’s always a big pile of “discontinued” samples sitting at the stores dumpster. There are zero guarantees that you can buy more of anything. My advise, if you think you’ll install more in another area is to always buy it all at once, regardless of whom you purchase it from

As with a bunch of the services available through Costco, this is contracted out to someone in your area. The flooring doesn't come from Costco, and neither the salespersons nor the installers work for Costco. Because of that, it's probably not really useful to you what anyone's experience has been unless they live in your immediate area. I would check the following after the in-home consultation: reviews on the exact flooring product(s) you are considering, and reviews on the local company that would be doing the install, which should be listed on any paperwork the salesperson gives you when they come to your house

I'm looking to close soon on a house and plan on replacing carpet on the main floor w/ laminate flooring. Vinyl is another option but it sounds like that could be more problems down the road if I don't need really good waterproofing.
Costco is currently running a sale on Harmonics Laminates which ends today. Researching a bit Harmonics is Quick-Step laminate, and supposedly it used to be one of their better products but have since been replaced w/ something lower end.
We're planning on looking in person today, most likely the Savannah Hickory will be most to our liking. Pricing now is $30 for ~20sqft = 1.50/sqft, regularly $40. Pergos are $2-$3/sqft, Lowes "Project Source" which was fairly well rated by Consumer Reports costs only 70cents/sqft. I normally associate Costco products as high quality w/ a decent price, would these products hold up in the same way or am I better off paying more / less?

As a floor coverings installer, I don't recommend laminate at all anymore, for any application. Even if flooding or moisture isnt a pressing issue, particle board is shit. Look into LVT (LVP), luxury vinyl tile (plank). Fairly new type of covering. It snaps together like laminate, but is completely 100% waterproof, and doesn't scratch or chip like laminate/wood. They make all kinds of textures, including wood. Go to Lowe's/Home Depot/whatever and check it out. It will hold up for 20+ years without fading from traffic or water damage. Only costs $1-2 per sq ft for the material (depending on quality) and I install it for $2 per ft. Food for thought.

Costco generally sells good products. The biggest thing I've heard about laminate is to get the thicker stuff. Easier to install and less apt to chip during installation. If you do go with something they are clearance g out, make sure you buy enough /extra.
