They sometimes use a performance look-a-like leather on the back and sides where there is no contact to lower the price. It is identical though and you cannot see the difference. IKEA does the same. That said, the rest is usually top grain leather and is very good. I've had a power Costco leather sectional for over a year now and it still looks/feels new. I paid $2000 and when I was shopping around, all of the comparable were $5k-$8k. Their markup on furniture is very low. When I was looking in the warehouse, they sold out in 2 days, and then when it got back in stock, I had to go early and race to get one, they sold out again in 3 hours. The value is unbeatable for some of the leather furniture. I consider my sectional my best value purchase ever in terms of $ saved.

Just be wary of “non-seating surfaces” that substitute vinyl, and also “bonded leather” which is basically vinyl with a pinch of leather shreddings.

Just started shopping around and want firm seating sofas. I checked yesterday at a local store and they say the "high density foam" is usually firm. I don't see any description mentioning the firmness of the cushion on Costco app. There's no leather reclining sofa on display in 3-4 of Costcos around me either. Can anyone suggest good leather reclining sofa from Costco? (Or any good alternative)?

Foam density is only one component of determining the firmness of a seat cushion. To know the firmness of a cushion you need to know its ILD rating. Given that, I don't think I've ever seen an recliner cushion with an ILD rating. Probably because a recliner seat cushion is integrated/non-removeable. As a general rule, if you are looking for leather furniture from Costco, I recommend the Prospera Home brand. Prospera Home is really Hydeline leather furniture (branded as "Prospera Home" for Costco). Hydeline has numerous options for leather reclining sofas. Because of the construction of the seat cushion (foam over pocketed coils) you are going to get a relatively firm seat cushion. If you read the reviews on Hydeline's website, the firmness of the seat cushion is often mentioned. You can buy direct from Hydeline (use the code "HYUSA10" to get 10% off most non-sale items). Also check Hydeline's Ebay store. [The one reclining sofa from Prospera Home that Costco carries gets poor reviews, that seems to relate to its modern design. Hydeline offers more traditional styles on its website].

I really really want to buy this leather sectional off Costco. Love the look of it. Costs ~$2500 which I understand is reasonable for a leather couch, but is a big jump up from my previous (used) sectional.

That is an excellent price and a good product. Prospera Home is the tradename for Costco used by Hydeline. Hydeline makes very good quality mid-level leather furniture. It's sold by Hydeline under the Maui line for $3,299 (although there is a 10% discount code that brings it down to $2,970). You won't find a better deal - buy it.

I purchased an Abbyson Talia couch and loveseat from Costco a year ago. Unfortunately in the past month the leather has started peeling and shows a neon orange underneath, on both pieces. Costco is coming to pick them up for a refund, which is great. Definitely avoiding Abbyson but curious about another brand there, Prospera.
Oddly I can't find any information at all besides the reviews on Costco itself. Curious if anyone knows about this brand (apparently it's a trademark of Amax leather).

Hi u/crimson090 , I think you can give our sofas a shot. We use more premium leather and we have a great warranty policy! Our company specializes in making leather furniture, our quality better be good if that is the only thing we sell! If things go from bad to worse, you can always return it via Costco. Our leather definitely do not peel, if they start peeling then it's a factory defect and we will replace you with a new couch free of charge while making sure the new couch does not repeat the same issue! I also suggest buying leather conditioner. It is a small investment to make to care for your leather sofa. If you are in an area where weather can get very hot and dry, leather conditioner helps restore the natural oils and moisture in the leather.
