Daughter starting college in a month. She has decided on Air with 16/512. The price doesn’t too much different with Costco $50 cheaper but Apple gives $150 store credit. A friend says Costco and others say Apple Store? And I’ve e read 16/512? It might be too much but we’d rather spend $200 more and have it work better and last longer. I’m not a computer person so don’t beat me up too much on this thread, lol. I just read opinions that say 8/256 “should” or “might” an awful lot.

I just a few weeks ago also purchased a MBA for first year college. Like you I was also torn between the 8 or 16 and when it was all said and done, I ended up going with the 16. I bought the MBA from apple. The back to school discount of $150 off plus $150 gift care, I was happy

I am not really familiar with Apple (I am really bad with technology in general), but I am a teacher and thinking about getting a MacBook for when I do online classes. I will mostly be using it to make powerpoints and worksheets while I am out of my office. Is this a good MacBook and a good deal?

Also, are these basically the same laptop and the only difference is the storage?

That lowest price MacBook Air will handle your tasks very well. Important to know as a new Mac buyer: you cannot upgrade the internal components like storage space after purchase. E.g. if you buy a 256gb, that’s all you’ll ever have.

I’m due for a new MacBook Pro (current one is 15” bought in 2015, mid-2014 version- have loved it for a decade). I’m a freelance graphic designer.

Costco's sale on the M4 Pro 16” MacBook Pro at $250 off ends tomorrow. Final price would be $2,199 (plus I would add AppleCare, I guess). Should I buy now or will there be further discounts after the M5 16” comes out next year? Any special perks or drawbacks buying an Apple laptop from Costco? (Best Buy has the same price right now, and Apple is offering a $250 Apple gift card which would not be as useful.)

My old MacBook still works okay but will want to buy something in 2026 at latest, so I just didn’t want to miss the sale and regret it later.

If you’re currently using a 2014 MacBook and it’s doing everything you want maybe it would be better going for the M4 MacBook Air, I think I saw them did around $750 at Costco. These M chips are pretty crazy on performance and hardly ever get hot, the fans on my M3 rarely turn on

Ugggghhh I started out with the idea of a $650 M1 from Walmart with 8 & 256, then thought about an Amazon M2 with 8 and 256, but got scared away by single chip design of SSD. So then to Costco for an M3 and an additional free year of warranty and a 90 return even after opening and using it.

There’s no difference, all manufactured at the same factory. I prefer getting my Apple devices from Costco. Usually $50-$100 cheaper, Apple Care is cheaper, longer return window and I get rewards at the end of the year. Both would be serviced by Apple, not Costco or Amazon. The only difference I can think of is specs. Amazon will have all available specs. Costco will have most popular.

Hi, I am in need of a new laptop in the next 6 months.

My understanding is that a new generation of MacBook Pro is coming out in the Fall.

I'm comfortable with Linux, Windows, and Mac. I might decide to go with Mac this time. Are there any additional warranties or anything else you get buying Macs at Costco vs. online or Apple stores?

Yes. Costco gives a 2d year of warranty. If you have the Costco Citi card, that adds 2 additional years, all of which run sequentially after the 1 year Apple warranty ends. So - unless you think you will need phone support for more than 90 days, you can skip Applecare.
