Hello fellow cult members, i'm new to costco membership. What are things i should know about?
I started digging around deals on food, i think meat is savvy but otherwise it doesn't seem crazy. What else should i be looking at? Thank you!
Hi Guys,
I got my Costco membership earlier but gave it away since we didn't have a car then and the travel used to be too much.
Right now I get my groceries from Freshco (scene points) and Food Basics ( boycotting Loblaws since May ).
We are only 2 people and Vegetarians who do not like packed food so most of our groceries are veggies.
I spend about $60 to $100 a week in groceries.
I use Pioneer gas stations as I get Journie points from my card and Costco gas isn't that closer to me anyway.
I do intend to purchase a sofa cleaner and maybe a playstation in the coming month. So is Costco membership worth that?

So Im moving to Canada and have no experience whatsoever with Costco and this might sound stupid to you but how do I get a membership? Is there like an income requirement or something else that I should know of? Btw, I’m currently in a territory where Costco Canada website doesn’t open and therefore can’t get answers to my questions.
Hey everyone, I’m considering getting a Costco membership and could really use some advice from those who shop there regularly.
For the past 1–2 years, I’ve been ordering groceries via the DoorDash app — usually non-perishables from No Frills and fruits/veggies/dairy from Loblaws. It’s been convenient, but I’m wondering if Costco could help save money in the long run.
I don’t own a car, but I do rent a Communauto once or twice a month, so I could plan bigger grocery runs when I have access to a vehicle.
A few details:
Family of 2
Currently spending around $500/month on groceries
Open to doing 1–2 big Costco hauls a month instead of frequent small DoorDash orders
Questions:
Is Costco membership worth it in this situation?
Are the savings significant compared to No Frills/Loblaws?
How’s the quality of produce, dairy, etc.?
Has anyone else made a similar switch — from grocery delivery to Costco?
Any first-time membership deals or promos I should know about?
Would love to hear your experiences — thanks in advance!
I live in DT, Toronto.
Edit- Just grabbed the Executive Card through Groupon! Big thanks to everyone for the tips—couldn’t have navigated the discount jungle without you! 😊
I saw a Groupon deal and the offer on Costco’s own website.
What other things should I keep in mind while getting the membership for the first time?
Hey everyone! Looking to get a costco membership, wondering if anyone had any suggestions on best way to get membership.
Stuff like rebates, signing up with a certain bank/getting a certain credit card etc for possible membership wave fees etc.
Best ways to signup like through website or bank etc?
I live in Calgary AB, Canada if that makes a difference!
Wondering if people think the membership fee is worth cheaper groceries? Two adults and a toddler in my household if that helps.
Sorry if this doesn’t count as personal finance happy to remove if not!
Just wondering since food price went up if I should get a membership.
Hi!! My moms been a longtime Costco goer, but now being on my own and having my own family sometimes I need the snacks for the feral children before we go for our quarterly Costco haul. I used to use her membership at self checkout to get formula (I know it’s a big no no) but since I got cracked down on once like six months ago I haven’t been back since besides with my mom.
My fiancé and I are wanting to get a membership, just a basic one because we won’t use it enough to benefit to have the executive membership. When we go in to get it done, we need proof of same address, all my bills are ebills, the internet is in his name, but I’m thinking I’d when we go to sign up initially would they just use our id’s and see that they match and go that way? I primarily do most of the Costco shopping anyways but if he were to go one day it would be nice for him to go alone.
Hello everyone,
I am about to be on my own for the first time in around 13 years so it is going to be a massive change in my life.
I need to start making some better choices regarding where I shop for food and whatnot to save money more efficiently.
For those of you in Canada and living on your own: Do you have a Costco membership? Do you feel the $65/yr fee is worth it? Are you able to save enough money buying stuff there throughout the year?
Or do any of you spring for the executive membership and actually purchase enough goods so that renewal is free or no more costly than the regular membership with the 2% back in purchases?
People in the USA can also provide their input if they think it would be applicable to me.
Thank you for your help.
I'm out. I'll be supporrting local businesses. Hopefully you do, too.
I am a single person who lives alone with a dog and a cat. I’ve been considering a membership for essentials (paper products, household essentials, pet food, fun snacks) but have no interest in going to the store in person because I know I would buy way more than I need. If I purchase a membership online, is it fine if I never go in to pick up the physical member card and just have online ordered delivered? Thanks for any insight!
Hi, I recently moved to Canada and went to Costco today for membership and they were asking for two photo ID’s even when I told that I moved newly to Canada and just had only my passport, company ID, work permit and lease but still they were insisting for two photo ID’s
When I checked their website it asks for only one photo ID. Can I apply online and collect the card from Costco. Also is it mandatory to have two photo ID’s.
People with executive membership do you see any benefits over the gold membership?
Is it only useful if we are spending over a certain amount/year?
I was in Toronto recently and didn’t think to visit Costco. I’ll most likely return soon but am wondering if I can use my American membership to access the Canadian food court?
I’d be so down to try the Montreal Brisket Sandwich and the Poutine with gravy.
