January 1, 2025 - I have a 32 inch that's going for over 15 years, and a newer 55 inch that's only 2 years old but has had no issues. ... My two cents: TVs are vulnerable to power surges. I've seen some really nice TVs get fried because they were plugged into a $3 power strip from the cable company. If you're getting a BIFL TV, also get a good surge protector, or better yet, a UPS. ... Obviously no TV is buy it for life. In my experience, costco usually has the best prices.

I’m a newbie, only done 2-3 real shopping trips. As my family mourns the loss of our tv that recently crapped out, do we buy one from Costco? I tend to avoid the electronics area because there always seems to be third parties over there trying to sell you stuff.

I am going to tell a story about buying a TV from Costco that took place last week. I bought a LG OLED TV from them 3 years ago. Since it was a higher end TV, it came with the extended warranty plan. I shrugged because I never found much value in extended warranties. Last week, the HDMI input with ARC on it started blinking while passing video. My wife pulled out the paperwork and there was that extended warranty I forgot about. I called them and they opened a case and gave me some steps. They asked for many pictures via email. Eventually they approved the claim the same night and sent me a 2 years newer version of the same TV and told me to keep the old one which works fine for all other use cases but that one input. I would definitely consider buying another TV from Costco because of the extended warranty because it was essentially thrown in for free. The total cost was on par with Best Buy back then.

No one is trying to sell you anything in the TV aisle. You're referring to the cell phone booths. Just ignore them. If they persist, I just tell them "Sorry, I'm on a corporate plan with my job and can't switch." That makes them go away.
