And all vinyl flooring lists the wear layer numbers. With the Shaw that I ordered, the same exact product came in 2 choices. One being cheaper (and a lesser wear layer) and the slightly higher priced one had whatever I had read the wear layer should be. I have 2 cats who both have their claws (and were kittens when the floor was first installed) and there is NO damage anywhere.

As with a bunch of the services available through Costco, this is contracted out to someone in your area. The flooring doesn't come from Costco, and neither the salespersons nor the installers work for Costco. Because of that, it's probably not really useful to you what anyone's experience has been unless they live in your immediate area. I would check the following after the in-home consultation: reviews on the exact flooring product(s) you are considering, and reviews on the local company that would be doing the install, which should be listed on any paperwork the salesperson gives you when they come to your house

Looking at installing vinyl flooring in my basement. Costco seems to have decently priced vinyl flooring.
Does anyone have experience with either of these two brands offered by Costco Canada, Golden Select and Luxuria?
Generally speaking, how is the quality? Any major issues with installation or longevity?

I’m a professional installer. Have used Costco flooring dozens of times with great results. The locking system is no different (maybe stronger) than much of what is available at your retailer for almost double the cost. The specs are good-the wearlayer, the overall thickness, the pad quality. I prefer the Luxuria though. It’s the heaviest of what they’ve sold in recent years. Very dense core. Solid lock. I’m installing some right now and have another job upcoming with it. As far as “your retailer will have more in a year when you need it”….ive seen that be untrue so many times it’s not funny. Manufacturers drop colours and entire lines whenever they feel like it. As someone who purchases from retailers also, there’s always a big pile of “discontinued” samples sitting at the stores dumpster. There are zero guarantees that you can buy more of anything. My advise, if you think you’ll install more in another area is to always buy it all at once, regardless of whom you purchase it from

I would check with flooring retailers as well. I have sworn off buying flooring from big box stores. I would check pricing on line and locally to see if the prices compare. You might be surprised by the savings but also the expertise you will get.

Costco stuff is a good choice for gamblers…they buy up close out lines and misruns and sell it for Pennies on the dollar. Sometimes it turns out fine, sometimes it’s pretty shitty, and there’s no way of telling which is which unless you buy a box or two and try to install a small area. In general any given vinyl with a 12mil wear layer or better(and even 6mil is fine in a 2 adult house with no pets) that is able to be installed well will hold up.
