Hi, OP! I've just spend weeeeeks looking into the exact same query. Here's what I found, if it's at all helpful. Note: A lot comes down to what look you prefer. The Cotopaxi Todo is 8L and comes in various colors, including black. Simple and light. Low cost. Can be found for under 60. The Cotopaxi Chasqui is 13 L and comes in various colors (look at multiple vendors and eBay to see options). It has pull handles on 3 sides (which I personally like a lot). Can be found for 60-80 bucks. Chrome makes the Kadet Max, which would have a lot in common with your present little guy but otherwise gives you MUCH more size to work with without being too bulky for transit. Cost new is 110-150. Aer makes some packs and slings that would also meet your criteria; prices range but expect 90-130. If you're into casual looks, both Patagonia and Osprey make super light slings. Topo also makes some interesting options, if you like their look. I suppose it's a little polarizing -- lots of colors and textures and whatnot. If you want something that's a mix of practical and pretty, Timbuk2 has a number of great smaller bags and slings. I've had a lot of their bags over time and can testify to their quality. They aren't always the "-est" in any category - not the lightest, not the cheapest, etc. -- but I find that they blend fashion and function incredibly well. I really like their Mini Castle Sling and also their Mini Prospect Backpack for a small but functional personal item that can be worn on the town too. All of the above are pretty casual (the Aer city sling can look a little "cooler" though). There are some other brands like PacSafe and Travelon who make slings, but I find they're a little bulky and usually pretty expensive for what you get. Because I didn't need my sling to be my day bag (I usually just carry a small purse), I opted for the Osprey Transporter Boarding Bag (on sale at REI.. with points added, I got it for $45 which is insane) because I simply wanted hands free / something that could be my personal item whether I'm one-bagging in a backpack or with a rollerbag. (PS: A lot of people say Tom Binh bags. I fully appreciate their utilitarian styling but I find them to be the ugliest damn super expensive things on the planet and could not bring myself to look into payind $300 for a sling that looks like something I could have bought thrifted from the 90s... and it would have been ugly even in the 90s...but they also make some bags that meet your criteria if you're interested.) Experience with Cotopaxi Chasqui 13L sling?
I actually have two of these and although not holding to the one bag ethos I have tried to trip with just those two bags. The challenge I find is the structure is interesting in the sense that although there is room it is not very defined so you literally have to shove everything in it to really get its capacity out of it. I like the bag but as the other poster has mentioned there is a bit of a issue if you choose not to use it it doesn't compact down very well but if it's all you're taking it's a really interesting packing dynamic because the way it unzips could literally just spill everything out and that is also an interesting way in how you are able to pack things into it it's like a stuffed bag almost that just clam shells open with some exterior pockets and slots to put things in. Just my two cents so far I've had these bags for about 6 months now and taking them on a few trips but nothing more than three or four days. More on reddit.com

Cotopaxi Chasqui 13L Sling
I bought it in a sale although I haven’t used it yet. I got it to wear on the chest as a personal item while traveling with a larger backpack. Great size for EDC, really nice tech compartment, clamshell opening, similar look to the allpa line which I love. Looks a little more like a messenger bag than a typical sling, which I also prefer (I don’t like the teardrop shape of many slings). Also nice that you can change which side you carry it on. Cotopaxi Chasqui 13L Sling
Outdoor Prolink Pro Emma Hulme shares her Cotopaxi Chasqui 13L Sling review, the best camp bag for commuting in town.
If you’re looking for a sustainable yet stylish commuter bag, look no further. “Cada día” means “every day” in Spanish, and it could not be a more apt name. With the weather-resistant fabric, it is suitable even on the dreariest days. I work from home, but if I were to commute to work, this would be my go-to bag. It fits books and a laptop perfectly, with lots of extra roomy pockets for additional belongings. This is the ideal pack for your urban adventuring!

Cotopaxi Todo 8L Sling - Cada Dia - Accessories
August 5, 2025 - I didn't want anything too big, but big enough to carry what I'd normally carry in a shoulder bag but also with what I felt was a safe and secure place to carry my passport and the cash and credit card I was bringing as well This bag did it all and then some. It has a place to secure my keys and can even fit a bottle of water and a few snacks without it becoming bulky or uncomfortable to carry. I'd already spent a good amount of time looking at other places without finding what it was I was looking for and your store was kind of a last resort. It'll be my first choice next time, for sure. ... The perfect size sling for travel and short day hikes.

March 22, 2025 -

I’ve been using an Osprey Porter 30 and Chrome Mini Kadet for the better part of 5+ years now. Every trip I book I intend to replace the Mini Kadet ands always end up forgetting. I’m headed across the pond in a few weeks and want to get something new for real this time. I’d like to replace it with another sling bag as I like to be able to wear it in front of me on public transit or in crowded tourist spaces. At 5L the Mini Kadet can basically hold my phone, passport and a few other small odds and ends like my headphones and power bank. I’d like something big enough to at least put a jacket in and maybe some souvenirs and such.

The design is sleek, comfortable to wear, and versatile enough for both work and casual outings. It easily fits a 14" laptop along with notebooks, books, and pens, and the large compartments make organization simple. My only gripe is that all the pockets are quite spacious—there isn’t a dedicated smaller pocket for smaller essentials. Aside from that, I’m really happy with this purchase and highly recommend it!

Cotopaxi Chasqui 13L Sling (Cada Dia) Review | Pack Hacker
Although it’s a sling, it can fit a small laptop, along with other everyday essentials, to be the bag you grab for your daily travels or as a personal item bag for your next trip. The harness system is more robust than we see on many slings as a balance to the carrying capacity. Cotopaxi Chasqui 13L Sling (Cada Día) | This sling is great for daily use or as a personal item bag.
