Upholstery foam suppliers and not all foam is the same so undo the zips and take out the liner and take it with you to the shop. This will make sure you buy the right density foam and have it cut to size and you may choose to do a sandwich with a less dense square on either side and a denser square in the middle. A good upholsterer will advise you. Worth replacing the cushions and design you already have. Then you can rotate them to keep them olumped. More on reddit.com

(Fixed cushion left, flat cushion right) My wife and I bought this wonderful sectional on Facebook for about $400. We love it and it is generally in great shape, but the cushions have gone flat. So, to remedy the flatness, we turned to Amazon, which is loaded with upholstery foam options that companies will custom-size for you! We went even cheaper and cut the pieces to size ourselves. I know this post is a year old but I stumbled on it when I was doing research to replace the seat cushions in my burrow sofa. (Love the sofa, absolutely worst cushions. But that's another story) I watched videos, read about foam and ended up deciding to order one cushion to test out if I got the measurements right and if I made the right foam choice based on everything I've read about. I ordered the Everflex V34 from foam order. Density: 2.6 lbs/ft³, ILD: 34. It was roughly 110. It arrived within about a week and I couldn't wait to test it out. It had a medium firmness like the description stated. I got the measurements right and it was a huge step up. Could it be slightly firmer, yes. But not much more. I then decided I'd try foam factory and order two more because they were considerably cheaper. I couldn't decide on which foam to order so I got two different ones. I know, big risk to have three different foam pieces in my sofa. But let's leave that for now. I ordered the HD36 High Quality. HD36-HQ foam has a 2.8 lb/ft3 density with a 35lb ILD. And the Lux Foam High Quality, Lux-HQ foam has 2.8 lb/ft3 density with a 50lb ILD I figured the HD was going to be very close to the Everflex. 2.8 lb density vs 2.6 on the Everflex and 35 IDL vs 34 IDL on the Everflex. I will say this after installing all cushions. The Everflex feels more supportive than the HD high quality. The HD High Quality felt similar to the sofa cushions I had before. Soft and not very supportive. I would definitely pay more for the Everflex. The Lux High Quality is very firm. My husband is 6'3" and about 230 lb and he loved the firmness. But I thought it was far too firm to be comfortable for sitting and lounging. Of course all these foams are fine and it will also be down to preference. If you like a firm or very firm foam, the Lux is the one. I am curious what the Everflex v44 is like. Might be the sweet spot. More on reddit.com

Well, it had to happen: after 4 years one of my IKEA Ektorp couch cushions has gone flat/lumpy. I'm wondering if there's anybody in the city who can swap out the foam for new foam. Is such a thing even done? I know these couches aren't "buy it for life" items but if I can extend the life for another few years for only $100's worth of foam, why not?
Are there such upholsterers (or even just foam suppliers) in Chicago?

Context: I have zero knowledge of upholstery or how any of this works, so please lmk if none of this makes sense or would look horrible.
I have a 3 seat gravel grey Burrow Nomad couch and one of the the seat cushions are in a sad sunken condition with some staining from I don’t know what. Looking to do one of the following (the frame itself is in fine shape):
Replace just the cushion that’s sunken and buy cushion covers.
Replace 3 seat cushions with one long bench style cushion, and potentially the back cushions with two long pillow style cushions. Will have to get covers here as well.
In either of those two cases, I will need to buy foam replacement - where can I get this? And is there any recommended place to get sofa cushion covers as well?
If any of this is bound to break the bank I might as well replace the couch but I’d prefer not to. Disposing furniture is my nightmare.

I'm also a complete noob when it comes to upholstery. However, I'm in the process of building my own sectional sofa. Which means I was also needing to find appropriate foam for the cushions. I did a lot of research and ended up buying some from GoToFoam from amazon. They have a lot of options for length, width (24" or 30"), and thickness (1" to 6"). They also have options for either firm (44 ILD) or semi-firm (36 ILD). I was wanting something a little more comfort oriented, and bought three of their 30" x 72" cushions, 6" in thickness and choosing the semi firm (36 ILD) version. Can't speak to its long-term durability, but initial feel is good. The semi-firm is definitely still firm to me (6', 180 lbs). I'll be adding some thick dacron to help both fill it out, and to create some additional "plushness". As for covers, for now I'm just going to use some stretch covers. Which is fine for my application of casual seating. For a more formal room, this likely wouldn't work that well. In my research, I'd found a local supplier that sold both "high" and "regular" quality form. The difference between the two is the high has greater density (2.8 lb/ft3), while the regular is (1.8 lb/ft3). In short, the former is supposed to last around 15 years. While the latter is rated for 7-10 years. Obviously this will be dependent on how often the seating is used, the weight of the users, care, etc. The stuff I bought from GoToFoam is the "regular" quality (1.8 lb/ft3) density. Which I was OK with given the significant cost savings. From the local supplier, the "high" quality would have been $275 for each 30"x72"x6" cushion. Their "regular quality would have been $225 per cushion for the same. While the cushions I got from GoToFoam off Amazon were only $60 per cushion. What I figured is that I'd have to replace the GoToFoam cushions 5 times in the 15 year period before I spent the same as if I'd bought the "high" quality foam from the local supplier. With that in mind, I just couldn't justify paying the premium at the local place. FWIW, the stuff GoToFoam sells is supposedly made in the USA, and shipped super fast. Making it from their factory in CA to my house in the midwest in 2-3 days. Even though amazon was projecting it would take a week or two to get to me. Before ordering I called them to inquiring about shipping times, and they said they typically ship Amazon orders the same day, and if not they'll ship the next day. Good luck!
