Is ".com" still the best domain extension? I ran an experiment with 1,500 people to find out how different TLDs perform.

I work with so many people that ask me “why .com” and my default answer is always “that is what people will assume, work with peoples assumptions.”

Now I have some data to back it up! Thanks for sharing

How to choose a domain name? What's my best option using a Cctld, gtld or tld ?
Please note that I am in Canada thus .ca. Here is what I usually suggest: whatever.com whatever.ca (or whatever country code top level domain your country has) whatever.net whatever.org Redirecting .ca .net and .org to whatever.com If you are...within...EU then get whatever.eu and redirect to whatever.com There is .asia and .africa, if you are within....you get the picture right? Put the content in whatever.com There is two types of Top Level Domains... CCTLD (Country Code Top Level Domains)... .ca for Canada, .us for USA, .uk for UK, etc... Then there is GTLD (General Top Level Domains) every other TLD that is not a CCTLD, like .com .net .ninja, .sucks .info, .lol and so forth. The reason why I suggest .com for the content is because most people think of a brand name + .com .ca (or whatever CCTLD), .net and .org are just for brand protection. I DO NOT suggest you get to get whatever dot EVERYTHING OUT THERE. There are hundreds of GTLDs out there, some have renewal prices over $100 a year. You are not Google, they own most google.com google.everyotherTLDoutthereTHATIchecked. If whatever.com is not available...see if you can change the name of your product, company, service, etc... BE CAREFUL AS SOME OF THESE NEW GTLDS CAN BE EXPENSIVE COME RENEWAL TIME. Many of the CCTLDs do have residency restrictions, like .ca and .us. As a Canadian, I can't get .us. More on reddit.com
