Is Coursera worth it in 2026 or just another resume time sink?
I am of two minds. In general, the common knowledge is that certs are useless because companies know CERTs have zero signal value for whether you can thrive in the job as the ability to pass some paper test does not indicate or show whether you have the skills to actually do any job with coding required (for data analysis that's SQL/Python for sure among others). That's what I believed until I met a recent boss who did not come from a data science or CS background and just didn't know what they were doing or what they needed. I am positive she weighted parts of my resume that I thought were irrelevant fluff more heavily than my github repository of data science projects. So while people in the department you want to be hired in probably won't care one bit about certificates there is always the chance it will help you get past some HR manager or other out of touch manager involved in the process. Are Coursera certificates worth it?
I’ve got grilled by a few when I said Coursera Certs are worthless but the skills you learn aren’t. While the certificates may help, it’s unlikely. More on reddit.com
is coursera plus worth it?
Yes. I have completed more than 10 specializations and professional certificates since subscribed. I have learnt how to use many tools and gotten good practice with courses that have good assignments. I have been able to add these to my portfolio. My previous jobs had iron clad confidentiality agreements because of how much access I had to company information so I couldn't use my work from those places. I was able to integrate all the new knowledge I acquired and adapt it to my industry. A huge benefit is being able to drop courses I thought I wanted to do and no longer do without losing what I paid for them More on reddit.com

hey guys 32m here been in logistics for a decade but eyeing a pivot to data analysis roles since companies keep posting for that skillset now. coursera keeps showing up in every career thread for certs and im wondering if it really lands you interviews or just pads the resume for ats. specifically whats the career payoff like promotions or role switches from finishing their programs versus self teaching. been applying to 20 jobs a week with no traction so need to know if this is the move before i commit. any advice is welcome.

Coursera is good for you to build general knowledge bout outside of a few select, established certifications, they barely move the needle.

1 day ago - I say “supposedly” because most people posting on the course message boards are posting in Arabic. I had to sign up for a free 7-day trial in order to begin the course, then pay $79 a month. It is part of a “series” that seems to be separate from the $59 per month Coursera Plus subscription.
