I got it working a bit better, albeit still a bit loud. I guess I'll just deal with it for now and upgrade later to a Noctua or something. Thanks for the help/advice though.

I just built a new pc, and the fans keep revving to high rpms and then back down seemingly randomly. When I’m just sitting on desktop, they will get very loud and then to back to being quiet again. How do I stop this? Is it bad?
I have a ryzen 5 3600x with stock cooler, and a gigabyte 5700xt gaming oc. Ask for any other information you think is necessary

Same CPU and issue as you, I had a fan hub plugged into a CPU pump header and not a fan header as it should have been. Plugging the splitter into a correct fan header solved the issue.

Go into bios and edit fan curve. If there's a setting for hysterisis whack that on. If you have an nzxt cooler get cam it's useful even if you don't but better if you do. It's just a hardware monitor where you can edit fan curves. Edit:didn't read part about specs

I have a prebuilt pc from Acer (i know) it has been good and can run most things but my CPU fan keeps revving up and down. It is to a point where I know the time in between each rev. It starts to do this after the computer has been turned off for a while. (I now turn off my pc when I sleep so I don't go crazy.) I tried installing speed fan and going into the bios. Speedfan wouldn't detect any fan, and the bios only had only a "Smart fan" option to enable or disable. The computer is an Aspire GX-785 (its the one with the i7-7700k and 1060 they don't make anymore). I don't know what the motherboard is but under my msinfo it says American Megathreads for the bios.
If someone could help me it would mean a lot because this fan is driving me crazy. I am willing to provide any info if it would help!

Are u sure that's not your car? Haha just messing.. But ya i would invest in noctua cpu fan.. They ain't cheap but they are a great product..

September 25, 2020 - When you went into BIOS you should have observed the RPM. Watch to see if that is really changing speed as you say it is. I suspect that you have a bad fan bearing and that is causing partial resistance ..hence the speed changes. Just take the fan out---measure and replace it.

Very recently I built a new PC with a RYZEN 5 3600X and I installed the cooler master ml360r cpu cooler with it. So far everything seems to be working fine apart from the cooler. The fans keep revving up and down. I open chrome it revvs up for a couple of seconds and then it goes quiet again. At times, it revvs up when I haven’t even opened an application. What did I do wrong? Please help thanks

Check your temperatures. You may be getting temp spikes on your cpu possibly from poor contact with the CPU heat sink.

In bios/software your fans are set at a default curve, which starts a slow climb from @ 30°C minimum duty cycle to 70°C maximum duty cycle. Only the way the curve works it climbs very fast at the @ 50° to 70° mark

With as high as Ryzens sit at idle, the curve is already beyond the low, slow at the beginning and into starting on the fast vertical climb, so any temp changes from load starts (very common an expected with windows background tasks) will make the fans ramp fast.
The cure is to adjust the curve to be slower to respond, bump the starting temp from 30ish upto your normal idle temps, with a slow rise to @ 50ish and make the 60ish + the high rise.
You have Ryzen, not Intel. They work differently. With Intel, idle/low loads cut voltage and speeds across all cores, but all cores remain active and any background tasks get bounced between all the cores depending on which one is free. So temps for individual cores are all an average use. With Ryzen, it has such higher core counts, that it just shuts down almost all the cores if not in use, and keeps just 1 core active. All of the background tasks use just that 1 core, so you end up with higher usage, and therefore higher temps. But it's 1 core, not the whole cpu like Intel.

Since they are not gaming, it doesn't really need to be super cool. On my system, I have my fans running at minimal voltage (35%) to keep it spinning all the way until around 50°C, at which point I ramp up to 100% at 65°C.
