r/techsupport on Reddit: What does the "CPU Package Power" value tell me?
May 12, 2024 -
Title. Apparently I have close to 140W. Is that the power the CPU is drawing or is it something else?

Calculating Power Draw with HWInfo Confusion? | HWiNFO® Forum
June 16, 2023 - Otherwise there are several rails in the system that don't support monitoring of their consumption so you can only make certain estimations. As for the CPU, the "CPU Package Power" should be the total power consumed by the CPU and you should not not sum that up with other CPU power values as ...

For example: If a specific rail at some point has 1.1V and 100A, then power at that moment on that rail is 110W Volts and Ampere on a CPU are highly dynamic depending on load. Click to expand... Hi! CPU Power Package reports extremely high values even though temps are lows | HWiNFO® Forum
As you can see in the screenshot, the CPU is reporting using well above 110W from the wall, but I know it's not doing so since my temps don't go above at least 50°. Even restarting the program doesn't fix the problem. I know this has to be a glitch or something. I used HW Monitor as well to see... More on hwinfo.com

Hey there, I started HWInfo (newest version) to see how much power my 7820x needs under full AVX load (4.2GHz incl. AVX offset) and HWInfo tells me it needs about 1.7W, what would be very nice but is obviously wrong. So I started Core Temp (newest version) and got the same results. So I... More on hwinfo.com

Ok the useful one is during. I will assume that CPU PPT and PRD were stable while the benchmark was running, at least within a small margin like 2-3%. The R5 5600X has a PPT (PowerPackageTracking) value from AMD the 76W which is the default max power consumption for the entire CPU package. More on hwinfo.com

January 4, 2019 - Hello I've been looking for an answer for this and i can't find it, if it's a common question - sorry for that. Under full load my cpu is rated as 95W - amd ryzen 1800x has: CPU Package Power (SMU) 100-110W - ok, this is power consumed by CPU CPU Core Power (SVI2 TFN) 190-200W - but...

February 28, 2024 - 1 for cores, 1 for SoC and probably 1-2 more for other stuff. In order to calculate power (Watt) you need voltage (V) times (x) current (A). So you need to know each rail's voltage and current at any given moment and then you add all rails (VxA=W) together to find the total CPU package power.

CPU Power Package reports extremely high values even though temps are lows | HWiNFO® Forum
January 27, 2023 - Ryzen CPUs for AM4 platform rely on external, motherboard sourced telemetry to determine their power consumption. The voltage, current and power telemetry is provided to the processor by the motherboard VRM controller through the AMD SVI2 interface.

May 7, 2023 - CPU Package in HWiNFO is related to Tjunction. CPU Package temperature differs from Core temperatures, but typically corresponds to the "hottest" Core. Package temperature may intermittently deviate +/- a few degrees from the hottest Core due to a slight difference in sample timing.

Question - CPU package power consumption is connected to nVidia GPU P-states which caused CPU to throttle during load | AnandTech Forums: Technology, Hardware, Software, and Deals
July 29, 2021 - Something is abnormal about your system if it hits 12W regularly in idle and not just as an isolated spike, in the sense that having an active dGPU shouldn't push CPU Package Power over 4-6W on average when the system is idle. In Windows I suggest using HWInfo64 to monitor both CPU Sleep States but more importantly Package Sleep States.

January 20, 2019 - There's only one method used to measure/report CPU package power, which is same for all Intel CPUs. So there's no special support/adjustment required for a specific CPU family. Is any other tool reporting values that you believe closer to reality? What values were reported in earlier versions and what is reported under full load?

I don't think that's possible, even RAM itself don't consume as much. I think SoC is the chipset and all of its components together, while IMC is included in "Package CPU Power", can someone confirm this, please?
