I know the image is poor, sorry about that, but you folks can read it, Is this legit? What’s MHz are these ? My cpu is humble, i5 10400f Thank you all for the opinions.
i want to us the software but i see a post month ago about malware in the latest version.
Does that mean it is safe to download and use the old version?
I don't know if this is the right sub for this question because I'm not sure if its hardware-related but here it goes.
I suddenly noticed low fps in games a month ago, mostly Battlefield (any one) and Squad, which was resolved by restarting the computer each time.
I tried everything. Updating my drivers using DDU (safe mode), updating my BIOS, reseating my RAM and GPU, switching off fast startup, switching to high performance power plan, etc.
And, by accident, I've been getting better fps by having both ISLC and HWMonitor running in the background. Now, I understand how ISLC can help with memory leaks, but why is HWMonitor helping me with fps?
Here are my specs:
CPU: i7 10700k
Board: ROG STRIX B460-H Gaming
GPU: EVGA GTX 1070 Ti
RAM: 32GB @ 2400MHz (Just one stick)
PSU: EVGA Supernova 850 G2
Drive: m.2 SSD for OS and some games, some other games are installed on a SATA SSD.
Any help would be appreciated.
UPDATE from 12th April 2026: This problem is fixed by the owner of the website. It's not a virus anymore.
But this post should be a example for the future to always be careful with downloading software from the internet. Even if you've trusted a website for years, you can still have bad luck like I did and download malicious software. Hackers always find a way to harm others. Unfortunately, such people do exist.
Post from 10th April 2026:
I want to warn you guys.
After a long time, i opening HWMonitor again on my PC.
it is version 1.42
i checked in the application if there was any update and yes.
the application told me to update to 1.63
i clicked on update and the official cpuid page open
i followed the page to download the latest version.
the file was called "HWiNFO_Monitor_Setup.exe"
after the download my Windows Defender instantly detecting a virus.
(because i am often working with programms which triggering the defender i just ignored that) i start the exe and a russian install programm opening...
i was confused and i canceld the installation.
i upload the file on virus total and i got this results:
https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/eefc0f986dd3ea376a4a54f80ce0dc3e6491165aefdd7d5d6005da3892ce248f
i delete the exe after it.
a friend of me send me version 1.61 called "hwmonitor_1.61.exe"
no virus detected on my system and on virus total.
i checked the version history.
when i try to download 1.62 then the server gives me this "hwmonitor_1.62.exe"
after that i tried to change the download link from
cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/hwmonitor_1.62.exe
to
cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/hwmonitor_1.63.exe
and the download link was valid and seems be the original link!!! i got "hwmonitor_1.63.exe"
when i upload the "hwmonitor_1.63.exe" on virus total then there is also no virus..
So please guys be very careful what you download on the internet.
Even the most trustworthy websites can contain nasty traps.
If anyone knows how to contact the site operators as quickly as possible, I would be very grateful.
I saw that there's a contact form on the website...
But after what happened, I'm reluctant to enter my data like my email address on the website.
Just a quick question when I look up hw monitor I see a few downloads such as cpuid and some others and I don’t know what one is official so could someone tell me what’s the official one

Hello everyone. Ive been getting some bad fps in all of my games aka not what is projected in certain videos or even near their perforance. I decided to download userbenchmark and run tests in which it looked very normal. I also ran 3dmark in which also looked VERY normal. When i go to play any games, the fps isnt even near what it should be. In fact, my gpu usage and cpu usage are usually very low unless im running high fps in the main menu or looking up in the sky in certain games. Im a very comp player so i put fps infront of looks in every game i play. I mainly play rainbow six siege, rocket league, Overwatch and Fifa 23. In most games, im getting less then my friends im which one of my buddies has a 3070ti, 12700k with less ram and weaker PSU and is running the same resolution as me (1440p). I have a 240hz monitor only bc im an insane competitive gamer lol. But it runs 1440p. My problem is, when i compare my HW CPUID monitor to my task manager, the Usage with cpu are completely different. Most times, my cpu barely even hits 5% on HW Monitor while gaming. It seems that no matter what settings i run my FPS doesnt change that much. I also find it weird that i have 1 P-Core that maxes out and all the rest are quite low. I optizmize all my games, no vsync, drivers updated, everything in control panel is optimized. I have been playing games competitively for YEARS (over 7 years). Ive never once had an issue like this. Is there any fix to my problem?

Warning: CPUID Suspected of Being a Virus; Suspicious HWMonitor Downloads Raise Alarms
Update April 10, 11:38 AM (UTC) : Might be fixed, would recommend holding off for now from downloading.
ALERT: The CPUID website that hosts HWMonitor, CPU-Z, and other software, has been hacked and was redirecting to infected installers; this also affected updates made through both software.
Thought of posting this especially since people come here to get help.
Unsure of which relevant subreddits to post so please spread especially if confirmed.

They added a statement:
Hi,
Investigations are still ongoing, but it appears that a secondary feature (basically a side API) was compromised for approximately six hours between April 9 and April 10, causing the main website to randomly display malicious links (our signed original files were not compromised). The breach was found and has since been fixed. Sorry for the inconvenience. I did my best to fix that mess as soon as possible :-/
So if you downloaded it before April 9th then you are fine... (me too phew)
It's good idea to check the digital signature before running anything from now on.

so i have a b660 board, i5 12600k and i swear when i first built my computer i got intel xtu to work. now it won't work, i'm assuming because of my b series mb. BUT i have a question. in task manager it says my cpu is at it's regular 3.7ghz ...however hwmonitor says it's at 4.89... which is it?
Anyone know any better program mainly to track max temps? I dont care for the fan speeds, and they seem to be wrongly calculated, sometimes showing up false number of 30k rpm or something silly. But I dont think the temperatures are calculated correctly either, but I might be wrong. Any reliable program to track temperatures would be nice.
Any program is only as good as the type of sensors it can actually read.
For example on my sabertooth motherboard AI suite cannot read some of the sensors even though it is the AI suite made by ASUS for that ASUS MOthboard.
I have had the best results using HWInfo or AIDA. HWINFO is free.
Open Hardware Monitor is also an option, it's free, open source, and extremely simple and easy to use.

Also, is there a suggested fan curve for this cpu and combined with a D15?
I have a AMD 5950X and AMD Ryzen Master says my idle temp is 33C while HWMonitor says my idle temp is 43C. I don't know which one to trust.
Hello all, semi-experienced builder here (4th build+lotsa upgrades), and I noticed something, I just upgraded from an i5 3570k + coolermaster hyper 212 plus to an intel i7 5820k and noctua nh d15 cooler. previously, my idle temps (using the 3570k) were in the lower to mid 40s (celcius of course). Now, I am looking at CPUID and seeing a load temp of 90 degrees.... Yesterday, I got 80 degrees, and between now and then, I have removed the low noise adapters on my cooler. So for clarity, the tempreature at idle went UP after removing my low noise adapters. The machine overall runs fine, and, despite this rediculous temperature, does not appear to struggle when running FC3 and Skyrim at my resolution of 5760x1080, nor has the CPU overheated and caused a shutdown, despite CPUID's insistance that it has reached 187 degrees in the past, which seems rather unlikely, seeing as even CPUID has not shown anything over 100 since my last reboot, and I have yet to open a game.
I do note that the other temperatures are correct, as checked using Piriform Speccy, but Speccy is somehow unable to get my CPU temp
specs and CPUID http://imgur.com/a/CJ9Zv
EDIT: after reapplying thermal paste, I am still having problems. BIOS states that the CPU is a cool 38 degrees celcisus, CPUID says 97.My previous thermal paste application looked a little on the thin side, so I upped it to appx 2 grains of rice to compensate for the absolutely huge die size of the CPU in question
EDIT 2: after borrowing an infrared thermometer from a friend, I have determined the readings to be false. after grabbing a few other programs to confirm my hypothesis, I think that CPUID is ADDING the temp of core 0 and my average temp across all cores. No clue why, but im just glad to not have to worry about my temps
