I'm not a lawyer, etc. I've also heard that some youtubers create a company that owns the channel. Is that something I should do? Also what are the pros and cons of doing so? I think if you plan to make money from something it's prudent to put an LLC in front of it. This let's you keep business expenses (and earnings) separate for tax purposes, and limits your liability if someone sues you over your content for some reason. With that said, making an LLC auto-doxes you if anyone wants to look up the LLC info (you can hide your address if you pay for an agent to handle it for you, but I don't think you can hide your legal name). I am actually still not 100% sure about this. However, I remember reading on this very sub the experience of some girl who created her channel as a business account. When she was finally able to apply for monetization, they asked her for the business papers. I'd say it is better ro stick with the personal account. I support the idea. Those saying its too much work/effort, saying you don't know if anyone will subscribe, don't know if you will make money - obviously haven't had a business before. If all of those things end up happening, guess what? You post a loss! It is business. It is no different than starting any other business - you have startup expenses - cameras, mics, lights, software, etc. You have operating expenses, and yes, you may actually make some money. The IRS doesn't say you have to make money to own a business. There are plenty of businesses that go their first year with out making money. Some require a lot of startup time.

Hello, Im thinking about creating a youtube channel, however I'm confused about how I should set it up. When making a new youtube account there is an option to create a brand account, as far as I can tell that allows other gmail accounts to be added as managers for the channel, however I'm unsure if there are any other differences between a brand and normal account.
