SBX is a part of Creative's Sound Blaster line, which is what I use with the X7. From a purely gaming standpoint, it's an amazing device that's hard to beat when it comes to virtual surround. I've tried everything you've listed up to boom 3d, and SBX with the X7 is the most natural sounding vss to me. It doesn't have that echo/reverb that Dolby headphone has, and the X7 has a very good dac with a good enough amp, giving clean and detailed listening. I use line out from the dac to a different amp. Dolby Atmos for headphones only really works with games that support it, of which there aren't that many, but does sound exceptional on games that do, or games that have it baked in from the get go. On every other game it pretty much works the same as Sonic, just spatial sound. CMSS 3D, also from Creative on some of their soundcards for PC, is probably the best I've heard, but I haven't had as much time with it as SBX. Another PC only option that I haven't tried myself but I've read is up there with the best is from Sennheiser with the GSX 1000. These are all my own opinions and preferences of course. A lot of people prefer just stereo with gaming, but I personally feel a solid vss adds another layer of immersion and life to games, so I'd say try what you can and pick what suits your ears best. I wouldn't be surprised if there are some new options on the horizon. More on reddit.com
