It is because of JavaScript that captures your clicks and, because of that, interferes with your keyboard shortcuts. If you disable JavaScript then shortcuts should start to work again. You can test it by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+I (Developer tools), then clicking Settings (gear icon) and enabling option Disable JavaScript.

Middle-clicking seems to work like a ctrl-click (as mentioned by Firelord in the comments).

Right click:
document.body.addEventListener('contextmenu', function(ev) {
alert('show your custom context menu');
return false;
}, false);
Ctrl + Left click:
document.body.addEventListener('click', function(ev) {
if(ev.ctrlKey) {
alert('select single table cell');
}
}, false);
its better to use Jquery to be honesty, i prefer something like this to catch a right click and escape from browser compatibility issues
$('#elementtobeClicked').mousedown(function(event) {
switch (event.which) {
case 1:
alert('Left mouse button ?');
break;
case 2:
alert('Middle mouse button ?');
break;
case 3:
alert('Right mouse button ?');
break;
default:
alert('You have a micky mouse !');
}
});
or
$('#elementtobeClicked').bind("contextmenu",function(e){
alert('Context Menu ?');
return false;
});
have some good time over jquery
have to go through event.shiftKey && event.ctrlKey
Contrary to others here, I do think there's a lot of value of standardizing your shortcuts across operating systems. It requires some effort, but once done it keeps you in the flow and focused on the work you're doing, without being self-conscious all the time of which operating system you're using. This is particularly true if you use a KVM, and it changing frequently and seamlessly between OSes but with the same mouse/keyboard.
By far the easiest solution I've found is to use BetterTouchTool. It's a commercial product, but it's only $21 for a lifetime license, it has a generous 45 days free trial, and it's incredibly robust and full-featured. It's a must-have if you'd like to customize and automate your Mac.
Here's the steps to configure ctrl+click to open a link in new background tab in Mac OS:
- On BetterTouchTool configuration, click the bottom-left
+button,Select App from Running Apps, select Chrome - On top select
Normal Mouse(or press ⌘-6) - Click on the
+button at the bottom, to create a new trigger action - Under
Please select a trigger, just click with your left button, and select the^Ctrlcheckbox - Under
Assigned actioncolumn, selectClick here & select action - Under Action, select
Mouse Click Actions, andCMD(⌘)+Click
Your configuration should look like this:

Now you can either use Ctrl-click or Alt-click to open links in a background tab.
You may use a soft like Karabiner (previously known as KeyRemap4MacBook) to remap keys as you want.
If wanted behavior is not available in default list, you may add new ones with the help of documentation
I tried the keyboard preferences -> Keyboard Shortcuts -> etc. . . I cannot seem to find anything already associated with "Ctrl + Click". Chrome recognizes that the function is "Ctrl + Click" but responds to "Ctrl + Alt + Click." Has anyone encountered this issue?
I also have the same Samsung modelled specified by the OP. It came with an extension installed called Word CaptureX. When I disabled this extension, Ctrl+click worked again perfectly. Strangely, it only didn't work with google sites.
It works for my Chrome. And it should be the norm, if I believe this list of keyboard shortcuts.
So you most likely have an issue only inside your installation of Chrome. There is no way to edit these shortcuts, as far as I'm aware. Try to reinstall Chrome, check the extensions which are installed, as they could alter the default behaviour. Try for example to deactivate all of them, and see if you have the issue or not.
Check if it works with another browser, to see if it's related only to Chrome, or if another program is somehow blocking that.
I find myself having to select multiple items in lists that are hundreds of items long. The native search feature is just about unusable since I have to put values in one by one.
Is there an extant extension that would allow me to upload or input a list then ctrl-click or select all items in that list? I haven't been able to find one.
This would save me hours of hunting and manually selecting a year.
