It is correc that engines with the solenoid should be shut down at half throttle. I will add that you still want to throttle the engine down to idle for a minute or so to cool it off, then increase to half throttle before shutting the ignition off. Could that be a result of heat and being close to a loose muffler? Or could it be due to a short circuit somewhere? The carburetor and solenoid are located on the other side of the muffler as well.
