Could that be a result of heat and being close to a loose muffler? Or could it be due to a short circuit somewhere? The carburetor and solenoid are located on the other side of the muffler as well.

It is correc that engines with the solenoid should be shut down at half throttle. I will add that you still want to throttle the engine down to idle for a minute or so to cool it off, then increase to half throttle before shutting the ignition off. February 3, 2023 - I still have the black lead of my volt meter on the negative post of the battery and in this picture I have the positive lead to the switched side of the start solenoid. The other side of the solenoid, what I called the hot side reflects battery voltage all the time no matter where the key is turned ... So a friend sent me a text.. ... June 12, 2023 - Click to expand... I personally would certainly get the throttle lever adjusted right, rather than put up with engine stalling at idle and otherwise running rich. There is an idle speed adjustment screw and an idle mixture screw to adjust along with the high-speed mixture screw.
