February 2, 2009 - In other words, the big difference in price is because you are comparing a heavy duty tiller (Troy-Bilt Horse) with a home owner quality tiller (Cub Cadet) A more equal comparison would be the Troy-Bilt Pony and the Cub tiller, and both are similar in price and capability, but I would personally still give the nod to the Troy-Bilt for their gear drive and the fact that the design is time tested and proven to be good for decades. ... Thanks for the reply. I do appreciate your comments and I did realize the seeming mis-match in the models but the RT65 is the model both Troy Bilt dealers reccomended in place of the Horse.

The Cub Cadet RT65CC (18-Inch) 208cc Dual Rotating Rear Tine Tiller RT65CC has been discontinued. The tiller shipped with just a couple of issues. One of the pins that lock the tines to the shaft had fallen out from shipping presumably. I found the pin, but never found the clip. I had one that worked, so I could replace the pin. One other issue was the bolt that holds the clutch cable to the lever was missing. I had a bolt to replace it, however, and attach the clutch cable. I believe that the tiller could be better packaged for shipping. Other than that, I love this tiller. I received

Looking to buy a tiller for my 20x80 garden in Central Florida. Soil is sandy, easy to till through. Because of the size of the garden and year round planting season I'm leaning toward a rear tine tiller. Not sure if it's COVID or what but I can't find anything locally that I can look at in person so it looks like I'll have to buy online. Here are the 3 I've narrowed it down to, which one would you get: 1) DR Rear Tine Rototiller PRO XLDRT SKU:TW19118BMN. 2) Troybilt Mustang Model 21AB45M8766. 3) Cub Cadet RT 65 H Garden Tiller. All within a couple hundred dollars of each other. Cub is most expensive, I like the Honda motor and extra year warranty over the other two but it has less cc (187 vs 208). Troybilt has proprietary motor so not sure about longevity or cost of replacement parts. DR power is the cheapest but only 11" tines vs. the 13" on the other two. Open to other suggestions as well provided you can point me to a place that actually has them in stock. 🙂

Might consider a wheel hoe for frequent shallow cultivation. Although a tiller would be good for incorporating covercrops into the soil. Check out the wheel hoe at hoss tools. I don't have any experience with any of those tillers but I've heard that rear tune Troy bilts went down hill in quality after the 90s

I'd go with Honda motor. Cc size difference is insignificant.
