August 24, 2024 - I did not pay much more overall but got a better unit for sure. I mow 5 acres with it and it's 5 yrs old and all I've done is regular maintenance and 1 set of belts as a preventative measure. The nearest neighbor has a cub cadet from HD and in the 2nd year the mower deck split and had to be welded as it is thin metal.

I bought a ZT1 42” in Feb. It has the Kawasaki motor and the fab deck. It’s been amazing this season. Fast, easy to drive, starts easily and cuts beautifully. I added the mulch kit and the hour meter. Would definitely recommend the mower. I know it’s MTD, but like so? I mean it’s a really good and well-built product, and the only negative I ever hear is it’s MTD. ¯\(ツ)/¯ Last mower I had was an MTD too and I never had any issues with it. I did buy from a dealer based on opinions from here, but haven’t yet seen any benefits from it, other than the staff actually knowing a lot about the products they sell. That was super nice. At a big box you’re 100% on your own. The dealer wants me to bring it in for a pretty pricey service yearly, but they’ve made changing the oil on these so easy and everything is so accessible, I’m probably just gonna keep doing it myself. Did the break-in oil change earlier this year at 14 hours and it took like 10 min. Anyway, my opinion is that it’s a great mower for a homeowner. I mow a little under an acre but I double/triple mow, and I’m very happy with mine. I try to buy good stuff that will last and I take care of it. I don’t have several acres, I don’t abuse it, and I don’t use it every day to make a living, so no need for a commercial used one or more fancy one for me. I could go on, but you get the gist I think.

Currently looking at a more entry level zero turn. I am between the Ultima ZT1 Cub Cadet 50in with fab deck/kawasaki 23 hp engine vs the Toro Timecutter 50 in with iron forged deck/kawasaki 23hp engine. I have one acre of land, no very hilly, just a lot of obstacles that a zero turn would help deal with.
I went to a local dealer this past weekend and the salesman stated both are good machines, but he preferred the Toro and stated it was built a bit better/more durable. What are your thoughts? The big kicker is the Cub Cadet is about $500 cheaper than the Toro.

I just went through this same dance. 1 acre, lots of obstacles. I went to the local dealer and kicked tires on a few models and ended up going back and getting a Cub ZT2 50. I liked the bigger tires, serviceable transmission, and other upgrades like hour meter and seat cable installed. I also upgraded to a 5 year warranty. Biggest seller for me was the guy didn’t try to upsell me at all. It’s so easy to get overwhelmed and oversold with so many brands and options, but at the end of the day…I’m cutting grass. It was delivered full of gas same day. $4800 for 48 months. Love it so far. Good luck!
