Have you noticed it happening after the hydrostatic is up to temperature more so than when it’s cold at startup? Be worth your time to inspect the belt for glazing and proper diameter as well as the v in the pulleys incase it’s slipping under load. But in the end I have a bad feeling someone dumped it on you guys because their assholes who sell mowers with worn out hydros. This kind of thing happens a lot because when the hydros go they are too expensive to have fixed at a shop vs buying new. Gods speed my friend. Answer from Deleted User on reddit.com

Cub Cadet RZT54 Hydrostatic Drive and Oil Leak Repair
I suspect there might be an issue with the hydrostatic drive on that side. Do you have any suggestions? I believe it's a model 17AI2ACK710. This has been happening for a couple of years. We've been taking it easy on it; if we don't push it too hard, we can still use it. We also bought another zero-turn mower, but now we have more grass to cut, so I would like to get the Cub Cadet ...

This happened to me years ago and the hydrostatic unit was replaced under warranty as they are non serviceable. These are throw away mowers and you have got it's lifespan plus some. Buy yourself a good residential zero turn like a Toro Timecutter. ... I had a zero turn Cub Cadet with a Kawasaki motor & was told that was one of the best motors out there.

r/lawnmowers on Reddit: Transmission problem with Cub Cadet XLT42 lawn mower
February 23, 2024 -

My 4-year-old Cub Cadet XLT42 broke down this weekend. The engine runs great, the blades spin, but it won't move forward or backward. I've checked the drive belt (still properly in place) and the transmission bypass rod is pushed fully forward (engaged). Is there anything else to check before concluding that the transmission is trashed? I really want there to be something else, because the mower repair shop said replacing the transmission will cost almost as much as a new mower. Unfortunately, the powertrain warranty was only for 3 years, so that bill would be on me.
