Cuban peso
currency of Cuba
The official currency of Cuba is the (CUP), issued by the Central Bank of Cuba. It is used for transactions at state-operated sites such as museums, parks, state-run restaurants, and official government services. The Cuban peso is pegged to the US dollar at an official rate of 1 USD = 24 CUP, though unofficial exchange rates in private sectors may offer up to 120 CUP per USD.
Cuba also has a range of banknotes in denominations of $1, $3, $5, $10, $20, $50, $100, $200, $500, and $1,000, as well as coins in values of 1¢, 2¢, 5¢, 20¢, $1, $3, and $5. Travelers are advised to bring small denominations of US dollars, Euros, or Canadian dollars, as these are widely accepted in private businesses like casas, taxis, and private restaurants. However, ATMs and banks typically offer the official exchange rate, which is less favorable than private exchange rates, and many travelers choose to pay in foreign currency to avoid the poor official rate.

I’ve been told to convert my trip money to CUP but i’ve also been told to bring USD and/or CAD. I’ll be staying in Varadero for 7 days and I just want to know what currency should I bring with me and how much money should I realistically bring for 7 days?
