It also does make me a little worried for the junior engineers of today. Since Cursor is an IDE that looks identical to VS Code, for existing VS Code users it’s really easy to dip your toes in.
Anyone using Cursor AI and barely writing any code? Anything better than Cursor AI ?
I use GPT-4 to do it all. Then copy and paste using VSC. It’s awesomeness. I’m crushing it. Stack Unbuntu, nginx config files, python, javascript, openai api, lots of css, postgres, and all the CLI stuff for managing web servers. More on reddit.com

Whether you’re coding from experience, looking up solutions to co-opt from stack overflow or building something using an AI editor (web portal or IDE), you still need to at least understand what you are changing. If I found something that worked in 100lines I would want every single one explained to me before I’m adding into my codebase. I also know flow-on effects like calling something before its initialiser/constructor will never work. But I will still back up first. If you’re allowing the AI to insert the code for you, stop and let it show you where it’s putting your new code and why. If you don’t understand what it’s adding, or why it’s adding it in a specific location then you’re going to have issues where you don’t know what broke. Don’t be afraid of asking the LLM to explain what and why it’s doing anything, and to elaborate if you need. Right now you just got in the back of a new rideshare service thinking it’s an Uber and turns out you’re in the back of some toddlers pull-wagon going nowhere. Have fun with it! But back up regularly, ask questions, and also learn to use gpt-o-mini to avoid depleting your sonnet allowance on trivial stuff too. More on reddit.com

Yes but I'm saying this as someone who has built and sold two companies and been coding for 30 years. If you can spend the $100 a month Claude code is better and just keep vscode for my own coding More on reddit.com

June 15, 2025My honest review after 3 months with CursorAI: Don’t use it
I don't use it in agent mode, ever. I look over all proposed changes and approve them one by one. I work on branches in case I have to revert. I work on discrete features that can be localized. If there is some feature that affects a large part of the codebase I have it propose a plan first. After reviewing the plan I have it propose changes and approve them one by one. I have tried to let it do more but that way lies disaster. You have to be patient and careful. It makes me much more productive but I am still doing a lot of work. More on reddit.com

It works so good for me I find myself just asking it to do things and it is what I want so much that I just apply that and go to the next thing. I still understand what it is doing and these are mini project so it is not too complex (.net blazor)
but it feel likes coding has changed forever to me and its a lot more fun being the rule of the approver and not having to think so much about syntax and specifics.
I don't mean to be a fanboy but I tried a lot of tools and it feels like Cursor AI is in its own level. If a tool can't look at my entire context in 2024 I am not interested. So I got rid of Copilot
Only thing I still use is web based chatGPT to get started with an idea and get the initial code... Maybe I can do that all is cursor AI as well and since it can read context after every question it won't need to recall what it is doing.

Hi, I'll keep it simple. I'm a paid user who is creating a simple game. While at first the game was working, but after I added a little more to the game, I started to get some bugs. At first I would segment the code and ask it to fix specific things, but then cursor started breaking the code, as well as making changes to the game that I did not ask for. Mind you this is my first time taking on this kind of task so I'm sure that my workflow could be much better, but my issue with Cursor is that it has just been making changes that either break the game, or when I ask it to fix something specific, it creates potentially multiple types of problems that either are syntax based, cause the game to no longer work, crash, or even change the rules to my game on its own.
Has anyone else experienced something like this? How did you correct it? And if not, are there any other AI bots that are better suited to keeping the code steady and giving you specifically what you ask for in the prompt.
This ordeal has been painstaking, and it feels like I'm going in circles...Thanks.

I’ve had some improvement by having it create a markdown doc(s) to document critical functionality and such. Then reference it by at and by words to keep things in the right direction. Has helped me in other ways because I’m not normally very good about documenting my code and this has kinda forced me into it. It’s not a magic fix though. It still drifts off with edits and removals, but this helps to pull it back in.
