Hi devs! I just wanted to share that Cursor AI gives free Pro access to students with an educational email (like .edu or school-issued).
I'm using it for my coding projects — it's like VS Code with built-in ChatGPT features. You can debug, ask for code help, and generate functions all inside the editor.
It's free if you're a student — just verify your email. It's a legit productivity booster, especially if you have web dev or app dev tasks.
This isn't a thesis idea, a promo, or an ad — just sharing a free tool that might help other student programmers too. https://www.cursor.sh

University and high school students can get a year free of Cursor. This is something we've wanted to do for a while! More here.
Is this true?
Is it good for students or is it bad for them ?
Hi!
I'm starting a course at my local campus next week with entrepreneurs and students who wants to learn to create mobile apps. It's a beginners course so I thought that a AI first tool like Cursor would be awesome.
We've made this course for specific Cursor as IDE.
However, since the the latest version is so incredibly unstable, it's does't feel possible.
My main question is this: do you think I should re-write all slides and materials and teach them to use VS Code instead? Is VS Code equally "good" for a complete beginner in matter of AI? The hole point of having this course right now was that Cursor was so good for beginners that we saw that it kind of locked up a new possible type of entrepreneurs to be developers.
This is true agony for me. I have no clue how to think. I've been advocating for Cursor on the Campus to all other teachers and now it's not really usable at the moment.
Please help me navigate in this.
Hi everyone,
I recently got a full 1-year Pro subscription to Cursor AI through a student offer. In the past, I only used Cursor during free trials for small tasks, but I never really took full advantage of it.
Now, with unlimited access for a whole year, I want to make the most of this opportunity. I’m not very technical, but I’ve always been interested in coding. It was tough for me before, but AI tools have helped me get back into it. I even built a few websites using no-code tools.
Given that I now have full premium access to Cursor AI, what are the best ways I can use it to get the most out of this year? I’m open to learning, building, and experimenting, but I want to ensure I use this time effectively. Any tips, suggestions, or ideas on how to fully utilize Cursor AI would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
I just got to know that Cursor AI is actually giving free pro access for an year to students https://www.cursor.com/students. However, I could not verify sheerID verification process. Did anyone else manage to get the access?
English version below:
Recently Cursor allows students to register using their email, my friend registered using his LMU email ending in de, but i cant register using '@'mytum.de or '@'tum.de accounts as it seems like they require a .edu account. Does TUM provide an edu account or is there a workaround?

It requires using a .edu email from the university. And don't use it to just generate AI "slop" that you won't be able to understand later. You can really take your learning to the next level using Cursor AI, like understanding complex codebases with thousands of lines of code, etc. But in the end, it's up to you whether you want to control the AI, or if the AI will control you.
So yesterday Cursor AI announced that they’re giving 1 year free pro for students across the globe. Obviously wanted to try the pro and went to register with my college email. But apparently, India isn’t even in the list of countries now
Searched a bit and turns out India was there initially, but looks like they removed it later, maybe too many people were making accounts or some resale/spam stuff started happening. But like, why do genuine Indian students always get screwed over because of a few scammers?
Also to the Cursor team: You all are literally building an AI IDE, but you can’t figure out a proper way to verify if someone’s a legit student? Even Unidays does that without much drama. Or is it just that you don’t wanna deal with Indian users?
Kinda sucks tbh. Was actually excited to try it out
big thank you to the cursor team this is big for me
Most of these companies make it for U.S students only so I am really thankful for this
Hi everyone,
We've seen all the feedback on student program. We have a lot to learn here but wanted to give some quick updates:
Some users in countries where we are not yet able to reliably support the program received an email about revocation by end of day May 11. We’re rolling that back. These accounts have not been revoked and will remain active for now. Some users may be asked to reverify soon.
A separate group of users bypassed country restrictions to access the student discount. These accounts have been revoked due to clear abuse.
Our communication and rollout should have been better, and we’re sorry to those of you who got caught in the crossfire.
We’ve published a Q&A on our forum explaining:
Who was affected and why
What regions are currently restricted

Hey everyone,
I’ve recently been exploring Cursor — the AI-powered code editor based on VS Code — and I’m genuinely impressed with how smoothly it integrates into the dev workflow. The inline AI assistance, code refactoring, and ability to understand context across files are pretty game-changing.
However, I’ve hit the limit on free usage, and the current pricing is a bit out of reach for me as a student / indie developer.
I was wondering:
Are there any legit ways to get unlimited or extended access for free?
Does Cursor offer student discounts, open-source contributor access, or community ambassador programs?
Has anyone found sponsorships or referral credits that work?
I’m really keen on incorporating Cursor into my daily workflow for a personal project, so any tips or alternatives would be appreciated!
Cursor, "The AI Code Editor", recently announced that they are offering 1 year of Pro to students for free: https://www.cursor.com/students
Although their FAQs say that they need an .edu email address (which we obviously do not have), I saw users on reddit claimed to have availed the offer without .edu addresses from Europe and Africa.
When I tried to sign up, it took me to SheerID, which made me authenticate with SFU OAuth, and I got an email from SheerID saying: "We have successfully confirmed your student status", but I still do not see the offer on my Cursor account. Has anyone else tried it?
Cursor AI has a free student plan for students but they ask for a document to verify your identity, has anyone done this yet? And if so what document did you guys use from Monash ( I tried using my tuition receipt and it didn’t work)
Thanks
