Alongside this change, we have also started to publish and maintain our own versions of many popular extensions to ensure their continued compatibility with Cursor!

January 2, 2025 - While all of the projects listed above support VS Code extensions, only Microsoft products can use and connect to Microsoft’s Extension Marketplace. The terms of use for the Marketplace prevent any non-Visual Studio products from accessing it. How does Cursor host extensions by Microsoft on Cursor’s Marketplace, such as C# and C/C++, without violating the VSCode Marketplace terms of service?

April 8, 2025 - That said, the Open VSX marketplace has many fewer extensions and lower usage than Microsoft’s marketplace. Anysphere’s Cursor nevertheless provides access to VS Code marketplace extensions including Microsoft’s C/C++ extension and the C# DevKit, from within the Cursor IDE, as well as a setup option to import extensions from a VS Code installation.

March 4, 2025 - But one thing I don’t like on cursor is its extension settings. Cursor uses its own extension marketplace, which makes it really difficult to sync vscode and cursor. E.g, I have python extension on vscode (from Microsoft), when cursor imports them it trys to update them from its marketplace.
