Compliance: How does Cursor use VSCode Marketplace extensions? - Discussions - Cursor - Community Forum
January 2, 2025 - While all of the projects listed above support VS Code extensions, only Microsoft products can use and connect to Microsoft’s Extension Marketplace. The terms of use for the Marketplace prevent any non-Visual Studio products from accessing it. How does Cursor host extensions by Microsoft on Cursor’s Marketplace, such as C# and C/C++, without violating the VSCode Marketplace terms of service?

April 8, 2025 - That said, the Open VSX marketplace has many fewer extensions and lower usage than Microsoft’s marketplace. Anysphere’s Cursor nevertheless provides access to VS Code marketplace extensions including Microsoft’s C/C++ extension and the C# DevKit, from within the Cursor IDE, as well as a setup option to import extensions from a VS Code installation.

Cursor - VS Code extension marketplace - Bug Reports - Cursor - Community Forum
March 4, 2025 - Hello cursor users. I have been using cursor for a while (but not long) And it is really helpful while I develop. But one thing I don’t like on cursor is its extension settings. Cursor uses its own extension marketplace, which makes it really difficult to sync vscode and cursor.

VS Code pm here We are constantly investing in VS Marketplace security, and this is one example where the team's hard work clearly shows. The malicious solidity extension was detected and quickly removed. I also want to say thank you to the community members that reach out and report malicious extensions - that is huge help in addition to the automatic detection that we have. In case you have any questions do let me know. These docs are also great to help you decide if you should trust an extension, so do check them out https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/configure/extensions/extension-runtime-security

r/cursor on Reddit: Is it safe to use cursor AI's extension from cursor's market place?
July 16, 2025 -
I've recently installed cursor ai and started to use it. I haven't got any trouble as it is a fork of VScode. However, recently like yesterday I came across a video on YouTube that a Blockchain dev was working on a regular project like he used to do using cursor and somehow he lost half a million from his wallet, turns out one of his extension used in the cursor was malware affected.
After knowing this, I'm a bit confused, will it be safe/wise to use cursor?
The app is pretty cool but however I'm a bit concerned.

It is the extension, nothing related to Cursor

You can use them, but be careful. It’s not Cursors marketplace and it’s not run by Cursor, it is an open marketplace. So check and verify what you choose to use. Treat it like downloading something from the internet. Don’t blindly trust everything
