Hi all, planning a short road trip for my fiance's birthday and will be stopping one night in Buffalo. I've seen the Curtis's hotel recommended a few times here as one of the more luxurious/special occasion hotels but I've also read a lot of mixed reviews and complaints about service/cleanliness. Wondering if it's worth the price as it's quite expensive or if there's another nicer/romantic hotel you'd recommend?
I've also looked at the In Buffalo and The Richardson which seem interesting but wondering if it's better to be downtown vs Elmwood.

And is it pretty easy to get from Elmwood Village to downtown or would you have to drive downtown and park there?

My SO and I did a weekend staycation at The Richardson for her birthday. It’s one of the more uniquely beautiful hotels I’ve stayed in. I definitely recommend. Also, it’s obviously ideal if you’d rather be closer to Elmwood/North Buffalo than downtown.

I stayed there over the summer in 2021. We bought a package that included a $100 credit for dinner at their restaurant. They provided us with special menus listing higher prices because they knew we were using this credit. We found this out because they gave my husband one menu and a different one to me, and a similar thing occurred with the guests seated next to us. They switched our menus, so I knew the other guests were paying less for the same items. The stay itself was fine, but I was pretty disappointed in that weird little business move. More on reddit.com

Out of sheer curiosity, I just sorted their Google reviews from lowest to highest. Honestly there are a bunch of really immature responses. Here's a selection of the finest: "Nice review! If your friend does not know how to properly dress to visit a 5 Star property, then we really have no response to your poorly drafted and posted review." "You need to take a deep look into the mirror and you will see a pathetic LIAR!" "We are sorry to hear that you are one of few people that feel this way. We failed because we are too crowded and very popular?" "Instead of rating us any lower, how about you agree to never stay here..." "It is more than obvious that you did not stay at the Curtiss Hotel and likely work for a competitor unsuccessfully attempting to damage our stellar 5 Star reputation. Good luck to you!!!" Just stayed there last weekend. Room was nice (and clean!), ours had a jacuzzi. The bar was nice, I saw some of the food coming out that looked good. Reasonable price for the particular drink I ordered. There was a large pool and jacuzzi outside but we didn’t go in that. Overall, for the cost it was well worth it.

There were lots of so-so hotel reviews and the prices were crazy high for a falls view. I decided to stay here instead (about half the cost of a falls view hotel). So happy with the choice; this was a much better value! We still had a full day at the falls experiencing all the tourist activities, but drove back to the Curtiss in the evening (about 25 minutes).
