So then I tried a new Incognito window. The cursor hides just fine. Wtf. lol (yeah I know, no extensions are enabled in Incognito mode but still) So I deleted my profile again and tried Chrome without any customizations or extensions installed and the cursor hides just fine. More on reddit.com

This is linked with the longstanding behavior of a new window showing the home page. With that in mind, if you change your Home page setting to Blank page, the cursor/focus can't go into the page so it goes into the address bar. Otherwise, Ctrl+L, Alt+D, or F6 should move the focus into the address bar so you don't have to move your hands from the keyboard. (New tabs in an existing window are a different story: the cursor should always be placed in the address bar for a new tab unless an add-on moves it into the page.) More on reddit.com
