r/remotework on Reddit: Looking for Remote No Experience Customer Service Jobs for Phone, Chat, Email and Social Media
May 6, 2023 -

I'm in dire need of work and I have no experience. I can't get a job in real life because of personal reasons. Does anyone know how to find legit customer service jobs? The ones on Google look all too fishy to me.. and can't find many on Indeed. If you know any sites or open positions I'd greatly appreciate it! Not looking to earn a ton right now.

Looking for Remote No Experience Customer Service Jobs for Phone, Chat, Email and Social Media
It’s a lot of work to find a remote position even with a strong resume. There is a lot of competition right now, but it’s possible! It took me months of applying even with 10 years of experience in my field and I finally got a job offer this week. Use LinkedIn if you’re not already. I had lost faith in it but it’s ultimately where I found my new job. Don’t rely on the easy apply, go to the company websites to apply directly, don’t skip the cover letters. Even if you may not have a lot of experience try to get a resume put together that can highlight your skills. Be aware of the many scams that can occur, there are gross people out there that try to take advantage of those that are just looking for an income. More on reddit.com

You might want to give wfhalert a look, it's a service that sends daily curated remote job alerts, focusing on entry level roles like customer service or data entry that don’t need a degree. It could match what you're searching for. People often come across genuine opportunities there while avoiding scams. How difficult is it to get a remote customer job with no experience?
I've worked in customer support for 10+ years at startups, now managing teams, so I'd love to answer this question for you! There are two main components to what I think can help you out: The first is presenting yourself as a desirable candidate because you don't have experience in the field you're looking to work. While you only have custodial experience, you have really important skills that are translatable: you're dependable, and you're detail-oriented because of the type of work you've previously done. If a cover letter is requested, those are the key points to focus on. Getting people to show up for shifts in customer service is 9/10ths of the battle, so employers want people who will be there (or logged on) when they say they will. If you have additional experience with computers (gaming, etc), express a level of comfort that gives confidence that even if the tools (support helpdesk, working with the product, etc) may be new, your ability to understand the basics won't be. Second, I'd recommend applying for two different types of companies. The first will be your best best, though less desirable. Call centers hire rapidly, are willing to train, and may offer more flexible hours. This is your most likely chance of securing a job, as they are always hiring. A lot of call centers are independent companies that have contracts with other businesses to manage their support needs. You'll likely be assigned a company to work for, which will give you great experience for the first few months. The other option is to work for a rapidly growing company that's hiring like crazy. Again, they're willing to train you, and there's a little more security because you won't get switched around to different companies' support teams. I don't think that freelance sites are a great option for you at this point, as they want people with established experience in customer support when hiring you. If they were willing to hire people who need significant training, they'd likely be doing it at scale and through the call center framework or internally, as mentioned above. Not all customer support is created equal. Phone support is the most grueling, since you don't know what the user needs and it's inbound (meaning you have to answer immediately when they reach out). Chat can be difficult since companies expect you to manage multiple chats at a time, but it's via typing, so you have more time to figure out the answer and respond. If you aren't a great typer or able to search for answers quickly in internal help documents, this can be more difficult. Email is the easiest to deal with as an agent because you have the entirety of the message and then you can ask questions to your team before responding. Work-from-home is a great option for people with chronic illness, but available workers are high and many jobs are being set up as call centers in smaller cities or off-shored to other countries. I am not saying this to demotivate you, just to paint a realistic picture that, especially with no prior experience, you may need to do the things like write a cover letter or apply to a hundred places to get a few interviews. If you land an interview or have any questions, feel free to shoot me a DM, and I'd be happy to provide feedback or support! More on reddit.com
