Hey guys, I’m wondering how much money people are making on average in cybersecurity. I was on Instagram today watching videos of influencers going to strangers and asking their salary. This woman said she was being paid 175k per year for a cybersecurity analyst role at a startup and she graduated couple of years ago. I was honestly shocked. I was hoping that she was lying for the sake of my mental health.
How much do you guys get paid?
I have 4 years of international experience including a year as a cybersecurity associate at a Big 4 but my pay is 90k in south California. I also have a masters in cybersecurity.
Also what steps can i take to increase my pay? Currently i feel like cybersecurity job market is super saturated and people (including me) cant find jobs. Certification wise- I know i need 5 years exp for cissp and im almost done with ceh. I have done product based certs and some pentesting cert from tryhackme
What other things can i focus on?

20yrs exp, no degree, many certs, executive level, $260k-$275k, 100% remote for 10+yrs. Ignore influencers, they’re hogwash. As for increasing pay, separate from certs: excel at your job, take on complex work assignments, work towards and be promoted, change companies (maybe not the best time atm).

February 16, 2025For those currently working in Cybersecurity. How much are you making and years of experience in your role?
8 years split between SOC, IR, security engineering, $150k salary, 3 weeks vacation. Hybrid. I’m probably underpaid, but I don’t find my current job demanding, it’s safe from layoffs, and I have free time to have a life outside of work so I’m not complaining. Edit: Guess I should add more context. Based out of California but company has global work. Don't work for government, but government adjacent. I also have a MS in Computer Science, GCIH, OSCP, CISSP. Have presented at a few small conferences and done some open source contributions for detection engineering. Used to bust my ass doing IR work and had on-call rotations. Mostly do a mix of CTI and some consulting now. More on reddit.com
