I have a Windows Optiplex 7010. There are no hdmi ports and 1 dsub port. On my monitor there are no dsub ports. I bought a dsub to hdmi connector and the monitor recognizes that something is plugged into the hdmi port. Should I try buying a cable instead of a connector or is there another problem?
Use the DisplayPorts instead. DP-HDMI adapters are more reliable than VGA, and give a better picture.

Are you sure the adapter you purchased is for an analog source to a digital monitor? At least in my experience, the other way aroud is by far the more common need.

Will a D‑Sub (VGA) to HDMI adapter work on a GTX 1060?
HDMI to my TV works but VGA to the LG 19M38A‑B doesn’t. What does that prove?
My GTX 1060 has DVI‑D Dual Link. What adapter do I need for a VGA‑only monitor?
My gf got me a monitor from her job, it’s a bit older but I’ll be using it as a second monitor. It’s listed as a DSUB connection with no other outputs. My pc only has dvi/hdmi connectors. I’ve been looking for converters around but am only seeing dvi to hdmi. I don’t think that’s the right fit, are these even a thing? Thanks.
I'm using an LG 23 wide screen monitor ( http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Monitors/23%26quot%3B+Monitors/23%22+LG+W2361V-PF+Flatron+Widescreen+LCD+Monitor+?productId=41602 ) and I only just built my computer 3 months ago using some of the latest technology and it can handle anything thrown at it.
I've tried using a D-SUB cable (it looks like this http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?um=1&hl=en&sa=N&biw=1304&bih=707&tbm=isch&tbnid=Epvl1lLNtXER8M:&imgrefurl=http://www.yycomputer.net/products/cable.php&imgurl=http://www.yycomputer.net/products/cable/vgacable.jpg&w=600&h=450&ei=s79HUMKGGMel0AXwqYGAAg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=380&vpy=329&dur=560&hovh=194&hovw=259&tx=208&ty=84&sig=112309854702633674658&page=1&tbnh=158&tbnw=211&start=0&ndsp=15&ved=1t:429,r:6,s:0,i:92 ) to connect the monitor to the desktop, but the monitor just says "DSUB POWER SAVING MODE" then goes on standby.
If I use a HDMI > DVI-D converter > DSUB converter (So one side is HDMI and the other is D-SUB (the HDMI > DVI-D cable looks like this http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?um=1&hl=en&biw=1304&bih=707&tbm=isch&tbnid=k9Kfty851nL0LM:&imgrefurl=http://www.jdaudioonline.com.au/index.php%3Fmain_page%3Dindex%26cPath%3D72&imgurl=http://www.jdaudioonline.com.au/images/HDMI-DVI-D_cable.jpg&w=340&h=340&ei=gr1HUJ2-JIaq0QXUiYGABg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=564&vpy=306&dur=362&hovh=225&hovw=225&tx=94&ty=100&sig=112309854702633674658&page=2&tbnh=162&tbnw=162&start=16&ndsp=22&ved=1t:429,r:2,s:16,i:130 )) then the monitor just says "HDMI POWER SAVING MODE" and goes on standby.
Does anybody have any ideas on how to make this work as it has worked in the past with the same wires (it all had to go in storage for a month) and now I'm trying to plug all the wires back in again.
Thanks for your help!
-- EDIT ---
I just tried VGA cables, they also don't work.
I also tried all of the above but into my TV screen but that didn't work either.
When ever i turn on my pc it the monitor doesn't turn on so when i go to manually turn it on my monitor shows me "D sub, No signal"?
please help what do i do
so far i have checked all my cables took out my RAM and put it
So I just brought out and old 1080p 60hz lg monitor that had been sitting in the closet for a while. This is the third monitor I have plugged into my 3060. I am using an HDMI cable but the monitor is stuck in "D-sub mode" which a few google searches tells me is a mode generally reserved for DVI cables. Those same searches however were pertaining to people actually using DVI cables, which I am not. Anyone know why this might be happening or perhaps how to resolve it?
Edit: The Monitor DOES turn on and displays an output, but many monitor settings are locked.
, clicking Control Panel, and then, under `Appearance and Personalization**, clicking Adjust screen resolution.
