I do. Most guys don't know how they work or how to diagnose, so will tell you to replace as an auto response. Repairs can be really expensive. Depending on the fault, if the unit is over 10 years old it may be better to replace. Noone repairs the electronics here. I looked in to it myself but it didn't really seem realistic the price I would want to charge vs buying a new PCB. For old units that I can't get parts for anymore I have sent PCBs to a place called module repair in Aus a couple of times. More on reddit.com

Does anyone know of anyone who repairs heat pumps? It seems most companies just tell you to replace the whole system but I've seen plenty of overseas places on YouTube that fault find and repair at board level. Why throw a whole unit away when it could be repaired?

I work for a supplier and deal with parts with sparkies/aircon folk. The problem is e.g. your outdoor unit main board is cooked (pretty common fault), replacement costs $400+GST to the contractor if you can get it, they often don’t have parts at 10yr+, couple hours total to diagnose and replace, you’re looking at $800 to fix that. Then they fire it up and the discharge temp sensor is no good either, add another $100 to revisit and swap that out. You’ve now spent close to a grand and you have a working heat pump which is old/worn, likely to fail again within a few years, and has no warranty. Alternatively you can spend $2500 and have a brand new more efficient unit which has a 5-7 year warranty. The contractors don’t want to do the repair work because they just end up getting badmouthed or hassled by the client when they get a massive bill and then the unit craps out again. Not worth the risk for them.
