Is Asus ROG MAXIMUS Z790 DARK HERO ATX LGA1700 Motherboard worth the price?
I am going to probably buy this board but still doing final research. It seems to be an update for both the Creator Pro AND the Hero motherboards at least that is my own opinion after comparing them to each other. The Dark Hero has less sata ports but increased power stages to 20+1+2 where as the creator Pro has 16+1+2 and I think the Hero is less as well. Both the Hero and Creator Pro have Wifi 6E but the Dark Hero has WiFi 7 and with that an update to BlueTooth 5.4 and some other components on the board. I am thinking it is sitting right in between as a Creator and Gamer board. I am going to use it as the base for a work station build. Memory is tough with this one and I am finding it difficult to choose memory but am refering to the QVL list for the motherboard. 8000Mhz seems to ONLY be supported for 48GB of memory were as 96GB top speed supported is 7000Mhz and seems from others experience 6800Mhz is the top end at the moment. Future Bios updates may change that, dunno. The $650 price is a sales price and seems to be bouncing between $700+ and $640 over the last week from this post date. More on reddit.com

Justification for Asus ROG Maximus Z790 Dark Hero motherboard?
That’s a great board. There’s nothing wrong with your choice. Some people just want to pay for the bare minimum when it comes to boards. The Z790 has all the feature you would want in a mobo. Me I want the best of the best so I went with the rog crosshair x670e extreme. Overkill board but I love it. More on reddit.com
Hey, I am getting the Asus Rog maximus z790 dark hero motherboard and was wondering if you need a wifi 7 router to allow this motherboard to work. If you dont need wifi 7 router then can wifi 6 work? Or does the motherboard come with wifi built into it already?
The motherboard comes with 2.5gb ethernet as well as WIFI7. So you don't HAVE to use the WIFI if you want to use Ethernet. That said, if you want to use WIFI, you need a WIFI router to connect it to. The WIFI Router does NOT have to be WIFI7, the Motherboard will connect to WIFI6 or even older just fine, as WIFI devices are for the most part backwards compatible. It will just be slower than it would be if it were connected to WIFI7. Hope that helps.

Does this motherboard support m.2 NVMe SSDs? I see the m.2 connectivity, but want to confirm that NVMe will work.
Yes, the ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Dark Hero motherboard fully supports M.2 NVMe SSDs. It has five M.2 slots, and they all support NVMe drives, which are PCIe-based, for ultra-fast data transfer speeds. Specifically, the Z790 chipset and PCIe 5.0 support ensure that you can use both PCIe Gen 4 and Gen 3 NVMe SSDs. If you choose a PCIe Gen 4 NVMe SSD, you’ll benefit from even higher data transfer speeds compared to Gen 3 drives.
So, you’re all set to use NVMe SSDs with this motherboard!

Is this the version that supports 14th gen out of box and what’s manufacturer date?
Hi, this motherboard was discontinued quite some time ago; consequently, only some older, remaining stock is currently available. Typically, 14th Gen processors can be used with this board without the need for a BIOS update.

VRM temperatures are well within specification, as you’d expect from the beefy VRM heatsinks and high-end SPS MOSFETs. Peaking around 300W and settling around 253W, the i9-14900K tried its best to get these things hot, but they kept their cool, never reaching 50 degrees Celsius in our 30-minute stress test. You can find a full list of specifications on ASUS’ webpage on the Z790 Dark Hero. When asked what the most important component in a computer is, many say the CPU or the GPU, while integral to the day-to-day operation, I don’t think either of them is the true most important component. If you asked me, I’d say the motherboard. Think about it, no other component allows all the others to be built upon itself, allowing a stable platform and facilitating communication with all the components inside your PC.

Im getting it soon. Very expensive for a motherboard but it has alot of things on it and alot of features that normal mb don’t have comes with extra usb slots extra m.2 slots up to 8000 ram speeds ai cooling etc. So imo yes it is worth the price if you definitely have the money to spare.
