I can't find any conclusive answer so any wise words would be appreciated:
I'm building two HPCs for number crunching, my vendor is missing the Noctua D15. Currently in stock they got the Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 4 BK022.
Will the Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 4 BK022 be sufficient to effectively cool the a stock i9-13900K? (while not overclocked, these CPU are under constant heavy load during workdays)
(Just for context, the boards are mid-range z790 with DDR5. The chassis has 7 ("normal") 12mm fans and the rigs are located in a DC with regulated temperature).
So yeah the title is the question :D

I'm using the fractal design torrent compact case. And and the 120mm fan on the cooler and the back of the pc are both upgrades to the bequiet rgb fan. (The better ones)
I'm only gaming and doing basic word document stuff on this pc.

Don't get a 13900k then. A 13600k will do that just fine and be far easier to cool.
Why are you buying a 13900k if you aren't doing cpu heavy workloads with it that can effectively utilize the extra efficiency cores?
Title. I have a 13900k that consistently hits 60-70C with just regular, day to day use. Gaming and other intensive workloads seem to make it hit 100C easily, and its currently cooled by DarkRock Pro4.
I'm a first time PC builder, and I mainly have two questions:
Is this the expected cooling from a Dark Rock Pro 4? (I fear that I may have somehow messed up setting up the cooler)
Is this a complete sin? (as in, will this make my CPU die in one year or something crazy like that? because there seems to be conflicting information - where some say that silicon and heat are like water and electronics, whereras others say that this is common / expected and that the chip is designed to handle these workloads / temperatures)
haven't undervolted or done anything else.
Built a new PC with a 12900k and the cooler I chose is the Dark Rock Pro 4. Everything is working well enough, but I am surprised that the Dark Rock Pro 4 cannot keep the 12900k from thermal throttling during even just one Mulit Core Cinebench r23 run. For the few games I've run thermal throttling isn't an issue and during Single Core Cinebench runs it is fine too.
I know the 12900k is hot, but I was expecting a cooler rated for 250w tdp to be able to handle it.

The computer is in my basement, the ambient temp is 67F, so that isn't the problem.

The case has good airflow, but I took the side panel off to be sure. No difference.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the cooler after re-reading the directions and watching the install video a few times. No difference.

Checked clearances and the cooler isn't touching anything but the processor.

Does anybody else out there run a 12900k with a Dark Rock Pro 4? Can your cooler keep your CPU from thermal throttling?
I will be building a high end pc for a friend soon and im wondering if the Dark Rock 4 Tower cooler from Be quiet is good enough to cool an i9-13900k. I was planning to use the dark rock pro 4 but since ive already installed it once i know that it can be a hassle to install and i dont know if its really neccesary. Any advice?
So i just put together this pc and at stock after 1 minute 13700k reaches 100 Celsius and begins throttling, i set the dark rock pro 4 fan curve to a stronger one but it just doesn't matter. Is this normal? Should i check the CPU paste? In gaming the temps are around 60C.
Edit 2023.04.23: undervolting by -0,050v solved all my issues and I only reach 97C when I run cinebench for 30+ mins
Manually set voltage to 1.3 or undervolt adaptive ned offset to get max voltage down.
I had Noctua NH12 air cooler on my 13900 but in games like w3 or ow in max settings 4K cpu hitted 100C .. last week i changed it to corsair hx170 420 aio and now i have 60-80C in games what is fine

I bought a be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 for this build, but couldn't get it to fit on the motherboard - the metal coils coming from the bottom plate run into the thick plastic covers that run along the top of the motherboard, which don't look like they can be removed.
I decided to buy a CPU cooler from a local store: the Cooler Master Hyper 212 black edition, which is still a snug fit against that same thick plastic cover but it does work.
I'm now questioning whether this was the right move.
As I understand it, it's important to choose a CPU cooler based on the TDP rating. The i9-13900K has a base TDP of 125W but can boost to 253W. The Cooler Master Hyper 212, I think, has a TDP rating of 150W.
So, if I understand correctly, my cooler probably won't damage the CPU, but I may not have given my system much thermal headroom for boosting.
Temperatures (ambient is 25 C):

Idle: 34 C (CPU core, not package)

Gaming: 60-90 C
FWIW, the case also has a 120mm fan in the front and another in the back, with the CPU cooler aligned to move air front-to-back as well.
Should I bother getting a better CPU cooler?

EDIT (2023-10-20):
I replaced the Cooler Master Hyper 212 with a Peerless Assassin 120 and got about a 15% improvement!
Cinebench 2024 (multi-core):
Cooler Master: 1795
Peerless Assassin: 2078
I see that online Cinebench scores for this CPU are around 2144, so I'm in the ballpark!

And for those who find this post: the Peerless Assassin 120 fits fine in an ASUS ROG STRIX Z790-H.
The hyper 212 was a mid range cooler like 10 years ago. Nowhere near enough for a 13900k. On air the thermalright peerless assassin is the best choice right now (if it fits your case and mobo), and it's the same price (in canada).
A 360/420mm AIO would fit on the motherboard much easier but depends on the case more instead
Are you sure you installed the dark rock correctly? It comes with 4 pretty massive stand-offs...also, the two metal brackets you screw into the mb you can mount horizontally (one on the two holes on top, one on the two bottom holes), making the long metal plate you fix the cooler at the end to the cpu vertically mounted (from top to bottom)...making it possible for you to slide the CPU down a bit (it doesn't have to be completely centered on the CPU, the base of the cooler is way wider than the CPU itself). Anyway, just an idea..the dark rock pro is a hell of a cooler, be a shame to not use it.

Currently building a pc for light video /photo editing and gaming, movies, etc. Was wondering if this fan can handle these CPUs, or if I would need something with a little more heft. Hi,After a long time ( 10+ years ) I built again a custom PC by my own. The temperature of my CPU during a stress test increase super fast activating the thermal throttling quite instantly. I wonder if there's anything I can do about it or if I've done something wrong.

I used HWInfo64 to get the temperature data and Prime95 as a stress test software.
I read online that this CPU is pretty hot but I wonder if I can do something. I unmounted and mounted the cooler two times just to be extremely sure the thermal paste was put in the right way ( by cleaning and re-apply it properly ).
Should I consider a better Cooling system? ( Most of the info on the web mentioned AIO )Would it be worth? What can I do as a temporary solution?
I tried to run the same test on my older computer which has a:
- CPU: Intel® CoreTMi7 Quad Core Processor i7-7700 (3.6GHz) 8MB Cache- CPU Cooler: PCS FrostFlow 100 Series High PerformanceIn this case the temperature doesn't even hit 80°. I guess it's just a bad comparison but I got even more worried.

Case: Corsair Airflow 4000D ( with just the 2 default in & out fans )
After doing some real tests with few games I realized I never reached a max of 80°. I'll continue with the real case experiments instead of relying on stress test ( especially while editing videos and compiling some code ).The plan is to get a thermal frame asap + a bunch of fans for the case. If I'm unhappy with that I'll start looking for an aio/water cooling solution.

I tested a bunch of big project compilation and the temperature reached quite easily the 100°. I under-volted from the bios and I managed to stay under 100° ( 92° ) and avoid throttling without losing performance on compilation time.
Still going to get thermal frame + extra fans for the case.
I want to upgrade my pc and i would like to put an i7 13700k CPU in. I will need a new CPU cooler too and found the Be quiet! Dark rock 4 pro, will this cooler be fine for this CPU? I use my pc mainly for gaming, but some of the games i play are pretty heavy so the CPU might have to work pretty hard (i play on 1440p if that is useful info haha) Thanks in advance!
does a dark rock pro 4 handles the 12700k? my case is a corsair 275r airflow with 5 artic p12 fans, and in the summers my room can potentially get up to 40 celsius, altho 32-35 is more common
Hello! I'm finally upgrading my pc but cooling option in my country are a bit limited. The only cpu cooler options that I have that are not ridiculously expensive are the be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 and ak620. There is a difference of 2 usd between the two. Which is the best option of the two for a i5-13600k build?
