You definitely don't need to get a new cooler. Any dual tower aircooler will be great for a 9800x3d. Temps will likely be even better than on the older 3dv cache chips as the cache is now below the ccd and thermal transfer works much better. Answer from GoldkingHD on reddit.com

r/buildapc on Reddit: Dark Rock Pro 4 with AM5/9800X3D Performance 2024
December 10, 2024 -

Secured a 9800X3D chip today, the Thermalright Peerless and Phantom Spirit models are mostly sold out or at scalper prices right now. (USA)

I have a Dark Rock 4 Pro on my 5800X3D right now, I understand it is AM5 compatible.

Anyone know the thermal difference between the Phantom Spirit SE/Peerless vs Dark Rock 4 Pro? Will it be that much worse than a new Thermalright cooler?

I'm guessing it'll be fine?

I see some complaints on 7800X3Ds about bad temps with DR4Pro, my 5800X3D runs hot without PBO -30 all core, but I also have a poor cooling case. with PBO -30 I am 69C-85C depending on the game.

Hey there, PoE2 „inspired“ me to upgrade from AM4 to AM5 and therefore I would like to go for a Ryzen 7 9800x3d. Currently I’m using a Dark Rock Pro 4 and would like to know if someone has this setup in current use? Imo it should be suitable, but I would like to know this for sure beforehand and can’t find a lot of information about this comb online. Thanks in advance for sharing your experience!

Dark Rock 4 for 7800x3d - Cooling - Linus Tech Tips
December 5, 2023 - Yeah, the Dark Rock 4 is plenty for a 7800X3D. That CPU is probably the easiest high end CPU to cool in the past few years because of the voltage and power limits put in place by AMD.

r/bequietofficial on Reddit: 9800x3D and Dark Rock Pro 5, are those temps normal?
September 16, 2025 -

Hi there. I've just bought a Dark Rock Pro 5 after being a proud DRP 4 owner. I'm using it with a 9800x3D on a ROG STRIX X870E-E (expo profile enabled).

Temps worry me. Keep in mind I live in Southern Italy and there's 28° C in my room, yet temps are as follows:

  • Idling on Windows: 55° C

  • SilverBench online stress test: 89° C after 15 min running on Quiet, 87° C on Performance

  • PassMark Performance Test: peaking at 95° C for a split second durint SSE test (maybe fans can't keep up, so I guess it should be fine), then it stabilizes.

When at full load, fans spin @ 1700 RPM as advertised with the Performance slider (1300 RPM on Quiet), so rpms are as advertised.

Those results come with case open, so airflow isn't an issue. Case closed I only gain 1° C more (I love my Dark Base 901).

I've already replaced the bundled thermal paste with an Artic MX-6 and noticed a few degrees better performance, but still sitting under par from my expectations.

I was expecting a better result to be honest. At the moment, the Dark Rock Pro 4 with a i7 12700K has a better idle temperature, sitting at 45° C in the same room, even if it has a slightly higher base TDP (5 W more than 9800x3D).

I was wondering what temps are you guys with similar setup having. Perhaps taking the same stress test to compare results?

And no, there's no plastic film left ;)

My current kraken x62 won't fit in my case once I have upgraded to a bigger gpu, which is why I'm trying to switch the cooler with a be quiet dark rock 4, that was purchased way before am5 was even a thing. Is the cooler really compatible and can the dark rock 4 handle the ryzen 7800x3D TDP?

Hi everyone! I'm new to PC building and currently planning my very first build. I’m considering using the Ryzen 7 9800X3D and would love to pair it with the Dark Rock Elite. Can anyone confirm if they are compatible? I have checked here https://www.bequiet.com/en/cpucoolercheck but i can not find the 9800x3d. Thanks in advance! (Also if it is compatible would you recommend it? I really like the esthetic but I do care also about performance.)

Will this cooler cut it without being very loud? I'm thinking of upgrading to 5700x3d if 5800x3d runs too hot. Keep in mind a new cooler will cost me extra 100$ in my country. It has to be silent. Would like to avoid that if I could get away with a cheaper cpu.

r/buildapc on Reddit: Dark Rock Pro 4 temps with 5800x3d?

Hello, I recently have noticed over the past few months my CPU is running hotter than usual. The idle temps seem to be around 37C-42C, but in Cinebench the temps are going up into the mid 80's at times and sometimes there is even a 1 second spike to 90C (this only happens if the case fans are set to low, if they are set to normal it may go up to 85-86C).

If I run a 10 min benchmark it will stay at about 78C, but the more benchmarks I run they tend to get close to the mid 80's.

While gaming I cap my FPS to a maximum of 116 frames for my Gsync display, but the CPU generally stays in the mid to high 60C's. But if I uncap everything it is around the mid 70's while gaming.

Overall are these temps normal for this cooler? I would hate to repaste the thermal paste since this cooler was the biggest pain to get on in the first place, but also I am not sure if that would help since the case is also a bequiet case, and it only has two fans in the front and one int he back.

The system/mobo temp seems to be around 33C. The GPU is also rather large in it since it is a 4090.
