Hi! I'm looking to buy my first mechanical keyboard and I'm considering the Daskeyboard 4 professional. People who own it, what do you think? How does it sound? Is it worth the money? Are there better alternatives out there? Have you had any issues? Thank you for your attention
Hey guys
I recently bought Das Keyboard 4 Professional Cherry MX brown and to be honest, I am very disappointed...
Overall keyboard is nice, but dealbreaker for me are some "hard-working" keys inside middle row (ASDFGHJKL).
When I press fast on north of the key it works great, but I spotted that I often press on the south (when I write) and some keys are "glitchy" e.g. CapsLock, A, F, H, Enter.
Other rows are "ok" e.g. F1/F2 ... are all OK except F12 which have the same "problem".
I recorded a video to show you the problem. It doesn't look like 'big problem' when you watch the video, but it is when you write something:
https://streamable.com/p8hf9
It looks VERY similar to this 0:00-0:03
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HYXsZqpHrg
{ except that it works this way when I press on south of the button }
I am SOOO disappointed, previous cheap keyboard for $10 OR macbook pro keyboard was MUCH better experience.
Not sure if this stuff is 'serious quality issue' OR other mainstream mechanical keyboards have similar problem (I live in Poland and it will be hard to order high-end brands, I have only amazon/ebay).
I think I will return this keyboard to seller.
If this is quality issue I may give another shot with different keyboard or try high-end stuff (topre - price is not an issue).
If problems like this are common with keyboards -- no thanks I will buy some scissor keyboard.
Questions:
Are this "problems" common?
Which switches are more reliable - MX brown vs MX blue?
Which brands/models from mainstream ones are most reliable (I want full layout)? Which brands/models from high-end/niche are most reliable?

Customer Service
This was my first Das Keyboard, and my first impression of the company. I was not impressed.
I ordered the keyboard back on June 5th, and was told to expect it around the end of the month. I contacted Das on July 8th when my keyboard hadn't arrived yet, and was told that defects had been detected and there would be a 3-4 week delay. I contacted Das again on July 27th, only to discover that they'd already shipped my keyboard on the 25th.
There was absolutely no pro-active communication from Das. I had to prompt them for information at every step of the process. They didn't even notify me when the keyboard shipped.
All things being equal, I'd rather not order from Das again. I'd be more likely to purchase through a reseller.
Selection
You've only got a few options when it comes to the Das Keyboard 4...
The Professional has laser-etched white-on-black keycaps.
The Ultimate is all black, all the time.
Both are available with either Brown or Blue switches.
I was looking for a full-size keyboard, with basic media controls, and not a whole lot of bling. I wanted Browns because it was going to be used in a shared space. So the Das Keyboard 4 Professional was pretty-much exactly what I was looking for.
But if you're looking for Red switches or backlights or whatever - you're simply out of luck. Das doesn't do that.
Construction
The keyboard feels very solidly built. The anodized aluminum top-plate adds some weight to the keyboard. And the matte finish does a good job of resisting fingerprints.
Das claims that the keyboard is "the thinnest mechanical keyboard in the world". I haven't made any measurements, but it does seem thinner than I'm used to seeing. It actually fits on my pull-out keyboard tray, which is a little unusual.
The footbar is a disappointment. I don't know what I expected, but Das certainly makes a big deal out of it. The footbar itself feels very light and flimsy. The magnets are on the weak side of things. It shifts and wiggles a little bit when attached to the keyboard. And the ruler is virtually unreadable.
It's got Cherry stabilizers on the spacebar, but it looks like Costar stabilizers elsewhere.
The keys themselves all feel nice and solid. Nothing creaking or shifting or anything. Good, smooth motion.
The media controls are simple and unobtrusive. Just a wheel and a couple buttons. One thing that was not immediately apparent from Das's website is that the volume wheel is not backlit in any way. That red ring is simply painted on.
Conclusion
I'm happy with the keyboard, but not with the company.
The Das Keyboard 4 Professional is exactly what I was looking for and I've got no complaints at all.
Das, however, could do a hell of a lot better with their customer support. Some pro-active messaging would have gone a long way.

Don't freak out, I'm aware of other brands. I live in Latin America: a 105-ISO keyboard is necessary. Legends/language doesn't matter because I'm planning on getting a custom-labelled set from WASD anyway (PBT is just not an option for spanish ISO). Because of that, switches need to be Cherry MX (tilting towards blue).
Local imports are deplorable in variety (no ISO at all, except for some tacky "edgy RGB" ones. I want something professional and don't care about lighting in the least). WASD V3 is too expensive for what it brings to the table, its one merit is that the cable is removable. Das Keyboard 4 (Professional or Ultimate) has a nice volume knob, aluminum top and USB 3 passthrough, but the cable is set. WASD can be bought from its store, and the DAS can be shipped from european amazon-like sites. If anyone knows of another brand/model I'd be happy to know (Cherry MX though).
I decided on finally buying a mechanical keyboard after my attempts at restoring an old one. I've prepared a narrated album of those efforts as payment for your help in this matter. You can find it here: https://imgur.com/a/17ZSs1g
Thank you for your time.
I want a new keyboard for my macbook pro desk setup. It is kinda pricy... anyone here that has this/had this? What did you like, how did it work with MacOS?
Do the mission control buttons still work on F3 and stuff?
I bought my first mechanical keyboard 4 years ago.
After a lot of consideration and absolute objection for any "gaming" mechanical keyboards,
I compromised on Das Keyboard 4 Professional, Thanks to Unbox Therapy (stupid me) - I chose poorly.
Now, after two years in the Mechanical Keyboard community, seeing Das quality compared to others (shitty keycaps, no backlight) and Das horrible reputation in this community, I realized I made a big (and expensive) mistake.
What should I do?
P.S: I know I'm a little exaggerating but you get the point
EDIT: I just want to share my experience for others not to make the same mistake as I did...
Also, I would love any tips how to make this keyboard a little better, full size keyboard recommendations (that is supported by the community) will also work, or just consolation from an awesome supportive community
Idk what you're all worked up for, there's nothing wrong with the keyboard you bought. At least your first mech has a standard bottom row, which is more than I can say for mine 😂. Just get a nice keycap set like these and you'll be good to go.

Well the resale value on Das is literally non-existent so are you just asking for keyboard recommendations or what?
I just purchased a Das Keyboard 4 Professional and it comes with MX Brown switches. I seriously can not tell the difference between that or my $15 Dell Keyboard from 2006. The keys feel the same, the press is the same, just that the DAS has way better and more useful features. It's not worth the $230 CAD I paid for it though.
Can someone tell me if this is what an MX brown is supposed to feel like? I have 48 hours to return it. Thanks.
I bought a Das Keyboard 4 Professional in august of 2015 and have enjoyed it tons since. It's been my main keyboard for almost every day since buying it. The last three years or so, I sometimes had minor issues with the switch of my "e" key (double actuation), but those would go away after tapping it a few times with some force or after a few hours of use. It was annoying, but I didn't really think resoldering was something I was up to.
Recently however, more keys have started developing this problem, and the "e" got much worse, sometimes not seeming to function at all. I tried cleaning all the problematic switches with some drops of pure isopropyl alcohol from the pharmacy, which fixed all keys temporarily but the problems with the "e" always seemed to return. As the cherry on top, my left shift key all of a sudden felt loos and was difficult to press. After removing it, I found out the entire cross shaped socket that goes over the switch had broken off. I have no idea how that's even possible.
I've ordered a replacement already. The Das Keyboard 4 Professional has availability issues, so I went for the "root" version which is identical except for the USB hub which is USB2 instead of 3, a minor inconvenience.
Now ideally I would like to make something out of my old keyboard again, once my new one arrives. I plan to open it up and see if maybe I caused some liquid damage I don't recall or what exactly I can see on the PCB. On top of that, a friend has agreed to help me with resoldering any switches I may have to replace. However, this keyboard has no use without a left shift key cap that's actually functional. Is there still some kind of way to get original Das Keyboard 4 key caps in Europe? I tried googling for a while but I only get caps for the 5. Ideally I would just like to buy the shift key. If that's not possible, would people recommend I look at a complete new set of keys then? I personally don't have any experience with buying caps separately, so some pointers what I should look for in compatibility would be nice. I also have no idea where in Belgium/Europe I can source individual MX Blue switches, but I assume that can't be too hard to find. If this is all a waste of time and the keyboard is bound to be e-waste, then that would also be good to know!
Thanks in advance for your advice and insights!
I am a Mac user and I love a lot of the features of the Das Keyboard Pro series. I was about to buy the Das Pro 4 FOR MAC, but then read a lot about the upgrades the Das Pro 6 has. However, there is no Mac version of the Das Pro 6. Does anyone have any opinions or experience with using the 6 Pro with a Mac? Are you able to use the keys to left and right of space bar as Mac keys with Mac function? Will the DK 6 Pro recognize the “option” key where it has the symbol between ctrl and alt keys on Das to left of space bar….and I also don’t recognize the two keys between ALT and CTR on Das 6 (I think one is function key) on bottom right of Das? Also, will the volume control/knob be recognized by Mac upon plug in? I thought I’ve read about a possible software download that must be done if using Mac. Any information of that process is appreciated too. My bottom-line question is whether I’ll be able to just plug it in w/my MacBook Air and be able to use w/Mac & w/Mac functions working properly? Screenshot of keys I've used as examples below--Das (black) vs. Apple (white) below. Should I just get the Das Pro 4 made for Mac? Thanks in advance for any insight.
Hey guys!
Not long ago I bought a Das Keyboard 4 Professional with brown switches. I am really liking it, except for a small issue: after turning on my computer, the following keys does not work: qweruiop789. If I unplug and plug in the keyboard agian, everything works fine until I turn off the computer and turn it on again. Any ideas to solve this will be appreciated! (I tried it in different USB ports, same issue).
I have wanted for a long long time to buy a mechanical keyboard (my first); I kept checking all new releases, all recommended keyboards around here and on other mechanical keyboard forums etc.
Problem is I don't do so well financially (or at least not well enough to be able to buy a 170 euro keyboard in one month like it's nothing, that's one third of my sallary) so I've been putting some aside for the past 6-7 months. My mind is now set on the Daskeyboard 4 Ultimate as it has everything I'm looking for: very clean, no macros or many useless multimedia buttons.. just the basic volume play/pause etc, great design. As for the switches I'm still hovering between the two options as I intend to use it mostly for typing/coding.. but I play the occasional game from time to time. I enjoy the clicky sound so that wouldn't be a problem and I'd opt for the blue switches my only issue being that apparently double tapping is a problem and I play Dota2, a game that rellies somewhat on double tapping a key to self cast.
Now for my real problem: lately I've been reading some reviews online (also here on this subreddit) about the new Daskeyboard and people are complaining sometimes about malfunctioning keys or stabilizers or the manufacturer.. don't really know how much it all matters and how bad it is since it would be my first mechanical keyboard. Considering I've been saving for quite a long time to buy one it would really suck to get something that does not work as intended or is of a poor build quality.
So.. what are the risks? Wouldn't the warranty cover malfunctioning keys and stuff like that? (although that would be a hassle since I'm ordering it internationally and I'm paying like 25 euro more in shipping). I really like the model and I've been closely following Das, reading their blog etc since the idea of buying a mechanical keyboard popped up. Any disappointed (or not) customers around here that can give me some piece of advice?
I have a Das Keyboard 4 Ultimate which has been giving me some trouble as of late. I've found that there are certain USB ports which fail to recognize the keyboard and I'm left with all the power LEDs on the keyboard blinking on and off.
This hasn't been an issue in the past and it could be explained away by the USB ports themselves starting to fail, but no other devices show any problems. I'll try a few things, but the control board inside the keyboard looks fine visually. I'll re-seat the USB micro b 10 pin connector on the control board and if that doesn't seem to help I can probe around with a multimeter but I'm not sure what I'd even be looking for other than a bad solder joint causing continuity issues.
Any thoughts? I've noticed that other posts about this same issue don't tend to get any comments so maybe it's just something that's bound to happen with the Das keyboards.
I've been the proud owner of a Das Keyboard 4 Professional for the last year and loved it, but the weekend just gone a small tragedy happened where I lost the F3 key cap.
The long story involves an epic saga of fighting pirates, high speed chases and whirlwind romances.
The shorter version involves me thinking I could vacuum the dust from the keyboard without removing the caps. Henry Hoover proved me wrong and won the battle.
I've been looking to replace it, but can't for the life of me find one that matches the other keys. Is this a lost cause and should I replace all the keys, or are the places that sell the default ones? - Even the Das Keyboard site seemed to lack replacements.
Any suggestions would be great, if the only option is to swap out all the key caps, I would be very interesting in knowing which type would be best suited for typing.
Cheers!
