These roles have extremely different expectations and requirements. DE will typically earn more than DA because DE is a subset of software engineering and requires much more technical aptitude and a deeper knowledge of SQL then DA, imo. I recently went interviewing again and accepted an offer. All of the places I was interviewing with were offering around the same salary.
For data engineering - not lead - they were all $175k to about $190k. And leads were $190k-$230k.
These aren’t FAANG. They were all completely remote. It was 2 unicorn start up, 1 series C start up and 1 known tech consulting group.
When I search online I’m seeing the average is $130k. Are these numbers just not caught up to this new market/inflation?
