Crime is declining in Washington DC because the police are faking the crime statistics
We all knew this would happen. The only way to avoid being fired is to give him what he wants even if it is inaccurate More on reddit.com
Crime stats in cities like DC don't come close to capturing the overall lawlessness that exists. Federalizing the police could help the people who suffer from that lawlessness.
Anybody who’s actually familiar with DC on a local level does know crime there is a problem. This is not something that was just stirred up for no reason. DC had the 5th highest murder rate among major US cities just last year even if violent crime rates have been generally decreasing since the 2023 spikes. It didn’t come from nowhere. Mayor Bowser (Democrat) seems to be willing to accept that such involvement, while unprecedented (and legal), could be helpful. (Also, apparently she has a good working relationship with the Donald). Joe Scarborough even said that DC and DMV democrats seem to be quietly happy with this decision, as well as himself. Daily mail has a good article showing the stats, homicide rates while they are significantly down from 2023, it still is higher than pre pandemic rates and still not at a level that the nation’s capital should be. Here it is if you want to see Morning Joe’s take on it and some other stuff. More on reddit.com
Department of Justice Website Says Crime in DC is at a 30 Year Low

Why is D.C. so light on crime?
The honest answer is a lot of people believe it's unfair to lock someone up for decades for something they did when they were 14. Preteens and teens are stupid on a good day and as a country (not just DC) we tend to hold younger people to a different standard than we would an adult. The struggle I have, and where the restorative justice community loses me, is I'm not sure someone who beats an Uber driver to death at 14 is redeemable. It's not a thought I enjoy having, but if someone is so failed by parents and society that they are committing that kind of depravity before they can drive a car, then I don't see how anything less than 20 years in prison is acceptable. Maybe the compromise would be the kid's household has to serve 20 years and the parents serve part of it. At the very least a teenage murderer should be in prison until 25. But this isn't a DC problem. It's a societal one and it's gonna get worse as poorer Americans increasingly feel that society has given up on them. More on reddit.com
