I'm trying to build a high end csgo LAN pc that's super easy to move around and can move around on a daily basis. I want to put DDR4 in my machine although I don't know if the i7 can support it or not. I can't find any information online (or I'm just not looking in the right place)
does anyone know if it does and can support proof?
If not, is it worth saving and upgrading my setup? I bought prebuilt about 6-7 years ago.
CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-4770 Processor
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (Upgraded 2 years ago from gtx 660)
RAM: 8GB DDR3
HDD: 1TB
SSD: 250GB (added about a year ago)
Mobo: Dell XPS 8700 Intel Desktop Motherboard CN-0KWVT8
I am trying to build a sick gaming PC (my first ever build, have ordered custom before but want to built it myself now).
I am getting very stuck and overwhelmed by the amount of information out there (I am not very tech savvy at all, I can understand the basics and need to research most other things).
So, I currently have 12700k and 3080ti(MSI). I am not going to be over clocking.
Motherboard - was looking at z690s (MSI Carbon in particular) but I am seeing loads of xmp issues and failure to boot issues etc with all brands MSI, Asus, Gigabyte. Have these issues been dealt with recently through bios updates etc or should I be weary and go for another motherboard? Are there any better ones than z690 for the specs I have and with less issues/trouble?
RAM - I wanted ddr5 (Corsair was my intended) but now I am seeing lots of comments saying it’s best to wait for it to mature as it can cause lots of issues (boot looping etc.) Is this correct and should I get ddr4 instead then? Will I still get maximum performance with ddr4?
Cooler - Aio or air? I don’t have a budget so I’m leaning towards Aio. Thinking arctic freezer 360 or kraken z73. Lian Li Galaghad 360 is also an option but got the impression that arctic and z73 are better. Thoughts? Anything you would recommend over this?
Anything else I should consider? Any tips/ recommendations?
I would appreciate any help at all. Especially regarding the motherboard as I am really stuck with this. And if an issue occurs I won’t know where to start (i.e. editing ram voltages whatever that means) so I would really like to avoid that.
It depends on what you want to spend. I'm leaning toward a DDR4 board from Gigabyte the Z690 Aorus Elite AX DDR4 . If you want DDR5 then I think the ASUS ROG Strix Z690-E Gaming WIFI is great but expensive. DDR5 is at least twice the cost of DDR4 and only a very few percent faster, most people will probably go with a DDR4 board and spend more on a GPU or SSD.

The only ones I've found only support 6th gen Intel CPU's, and I'd rather not buy a new CPU just for DDR4 RAM.
Thanks!
Sorry if this has been flogged to death, but I figure it’s good to keep the discussion up-to-date!
I’ve recently picked up a 14700k and I’m wondering which motherboards are the way to go, or rather, which ones to avoid. Eyeing off the Z790 chipset.
Budget is $500 AUD, but would prefer not to spend any more than I have to.
Thanks in advance.
To start off I want to say I'm not super familiar with computer parts and what everything means when looking for upgrades.
I bought my first and current PC from Best Buy (I know not the best idea but I was barely a functioning adult) about a year ago and have been happy with it for a while. I've noticed quite a few games nowadays (The First Descendant, Elden Ring) require a better processor. I wasn't aware when I bought the computer but apparently I have an Intel I3 13th edition and that's pretty outdated. The games mentioned previously recommend at least an I5 to play without issues, and while I can run the games they do crash sometimes and aren't very smooth feeling.
What I'm asking for is a recommendation for Motherboards that go well with the I7 since I want to get rid of my current motherboard that has a different BIOS setting than regular motherboards (I forgot what the exact term for that is) and also just because it's relatively old as well. For context, the current motherboard I have is the GA-B660 DS3H AC DDR4-Y1. I'd prefer to keep the cost under $200 since I'm not looking for the best of the best, just something that'll work a little better.
If you need more info from me just let me know.
