Do ornamental grasses stay green all year?
It depends on the variety and your climate. Some grasses, like Dwarf Mondo Grass, are evergreen in many zones. Others, such as Purple Fountain Grass, may die back in colder climates but return in spring. Many grasses, even when dormant, provide winter interest with their dried foliage and seed heads.

Can someone recommend a tall ornamental grass for zone 6 and low sun? TIA
We need to know your ecoregion at the very least to figure out your climate and soil composition. What’s your light exposure. Between 2-6hr of direct sunlight? Less than 2? Dappled sunlight throughout the day? Do note that most grasses tend to get floppy when growing in low light conditions. For dappled sun, there’s river oats (Chasmanthium latifolium) and bottlebrush grass (Elymus hystrix). Both have specific growing requirements mind you. More on reddit.com

Has anyone had success with planting ornamental grasses as a hedge row? Trying to decide which variety will work best. I need 4’tall at least, and will need them to be trimmable.
The first are Feather Reed Grass 'Karl Foerster. And they do exactly what the picture shows in full sun. They stay neat and can be easily trimmed over winter. More on reddit.com

Shade tolerant ornamental grasses
Dwarf Fakahatchee, (Tripsacum floridanum) Pineywoods Dropseed, (Sporobolus junceus) Florida Dropseed, (Sporobolus floridanus) Inland Oats (Chasmanthium latifolium) maybe the most shade tolerant of the bunch All come to mind for being able to handle part sun. If it's mostly shaded or wet, I'd say Sword Fern (Nephrolepis exaltata) - Please note the scientific name to avoid planting the close look a like, non native / invasive Sword Ferns. May 3, 2021 - Hardy in Zones 6-10, the fine foliage, which starts out bronze-green, takes full to filtered sun and tolerates partial shade. Deer and rabbits tend to leave the plants alone. Let Orange New Zealand Sedge spill over the sides of containers or use it in borders. It grows in clumps that reach 18-24" tall. ... Mexican feather grass (Stipa tenuissima) looks like a fountain of foliage, with very fine, green leaves that mature to pale gold. Hardy in Zones 7-10, it blooms from late summer to fall and reseeds easily, so it's not recommended for California, where it's considered an emerging invasive species.
