Is it safe to download deepseek Ai
That is up to your own personal risk and privacy tolerance. “Downloading Deepseek AI” can mean several things, with variable amounts of risk involved. Downloading the pretrained model to deploy on your own machine is pretty low risk. Downloading the app exposes you to the risks outlined in their TOS, just as the ChatGPT app, the Facebook app, and the Reddit app do. From a security perspective it’s likely not the worst thing you can do. From a privacy perspective? Ehhhhhh More on reddit.com

DeepSeek AI is free, but it's literally down 99% of the time.
Don't run it through the DeepSeek app. Run it through a U.S. provider like Perplexity or Kagi. I use Kagi and they provide access to ChatGPT 4o, Claude, Mistral, Gemini Pro, LLama, Qwen, Nova, and DeepSeek. More on reddit.com
If I'm just a regular Joe and not a company, is Deepseek dangerous?
The word dangerous really depends on what your tolerance for risk is. If you use deepseek via the deepseek API or their front end app, will anything you send to it be stored on a server in China? Yes absolutely. They'll be able to see your input, any information you provided when making an account and maybe some broad stroke details about payment information if you paid anything. This is no different from any AI service provider in any country, but it should be the baseline of understanding when using the services. Companies in China are obligated to provide data to the government if it is requested. Again, something you should at least be cognizant of if you are in any way worried data security. That being said, you can run Deepseek, all variations of the model on your own machine with zero risk to your data, but a massive risk to your wallet because the hardware required to run the full 600B+ parameter version is quite large. In my opinion, personal use for small apps and ideas: Absolutely fine. Entering sensitive company data or personal details: Be cautious. There are also many providers that host deepseek now that aren't in China if being hosted in China is a dealbreaker for you. More on reddit.com

January 27, 2025 - DeepSeek’s AI assistant is currently available for free and comes with three main functions. First, users can ask the chatbot questions and receive direct answers. For example, when WIRED asked for recipe ideas incorporating pomegranate seeds, DeepSeek's chatbot quickly provided a list of 15 options ranging from yogurt parfaits to a “Middle Eastern-inspired” rice pilaf, but it didn’t cite any specific chefs or recipes. DeepSeek’s app also has a search mode that surfaces answers from the internet.

I have read the privacy policy of deepseek Ai and there were stuff that I felt are fishy, like how they collect your "keystroke patterns" and sell your data to "3rd party companies", I don't know if I can trust them or not.

If you don't feel that's acceptable to you, delete it. There are so many competitors, you have choices. In any case, this sounds more like a r/privacy question.
