ChatGPT = if you want quick "sufficient" answers Deepseek = if you want to ask a very specific question that requires some extra "cleverness" I use them both for tutoring myself Answer from Possible_Bonus9923 on reddit.com

January 31, 2025 - I am generally finding out that deepseek actually gives me a more useful answer. I first go to chat GPT in my work, since I work for an american company (and i dont want IT to know im going to deepseek lol. i dont think anyone minds, but thats what i do) and then when the chat gpt answer is not good enough for what I need I go to deepseek and its inmediately bettter.

I imagine its trendy and cool to hate the big guy, or maybe its astroturfing/propaganda.

But has anyone actually used DeepSeek and got better answers? As much as I want to cancel my subscription, ChatGPT is still the best. Gemini isnt as good. LLaMa is pretty close to ChatGPT. DeepSeek is better than Mistral, but worse than LLaMa.

"Oh its cheaper"

I don't care. I need good answers. Cheaper is someone else's job.

ChatGPT seems best for asking questions about subjects. DeepSeek seems to not know about many subjects and hallucinates.

I'm curious if anyone has found DeepSeek better than ChatGPT. What was your Application?

Please provide what ChatGPT you are comparing it to, I typically use ChatGPT4.

My main task is data science competitions and research and always resort to any LLM available to ask for code snippets, DS approaches to try, or both. As DeepSeek (R1) is the only CoT free model i decided to give it a try.

ChatGPT produces more sensible results and (with the right prompting) the code works at first try. I can't say the same about DeepSeek. The advice it gives seems better at first, but when implemented, it is disappointing. Not to mention the 1-3 minute wait for the model to argue internally. About that, reading the "thoughts" of the model it repeats the same thing every 100 words.

r/ChatGPT on Reddit: DeepSeek says it's a version of ChatGPT
December 27, 2024 - It said it's part of the chatGPT family - this is correct. DeepSeek is a GPT (generative pre-trained transformer), the class of artificial neural network also used by openAI to make chatGPT.

r/ChatGPT on Reddit: I Broke DeepSeek AI 😂
December 20, 2024 - I just put the same question in ChatGPT and that was exactly its response... ... Dude, this is actually fascinating, it is changing it's route of thought in real time. ... Congratulations, that question just used compute-time energy enough to power 70 houses for an hour 😆 🤣 Enough of those and Deepseek will have to start charging lol · Seeing these off-the-rails "internal dialog" workings of Deepseek are cracking me up... definitely an overthinker ... GPT and Gemini have some many filters/restrictions/censorship that I find people suddenly caring about DeepSeek having some just a reflection of anti-China/pro-US sentiment.

My two cents: based on IT experience and now as avid user of AI including ChatGTP. For most of us. It does not matter which one is the best unless there is a particular feature or functionality that is critical. My point is : the best tool is the one you know how to use it well or master. You can have the best tool and use only 2% of its potential. If you have a mediocre tool used 80 to 90% of its potential, then the mediocre tool is the best for you. I keep hearing about try Claude for this, Deepseek for that , ChatGTP for x. I have been mastering my workflow over the last 3 months integrating ChatGTP (now paying 20 per month to get extra functionality such as images with no limit) , other AI video tools that probably use chat gtp. Canvas. Adobe with AI. Shopify with AI. And I created my own marketing agency for my small company. The secrete : I know my business.. I will keep watching if there is something out there that offers something very different or better in order for me to change platform. Hopefully this example helps.

From what information has been released in the media, deepseek is considered more 'advanced' than GPT because it was able to achieve technology at the same level of intelligence as GPT, but with much less hardware. In other words, it is much more cost effective compared to GPT. I have used both extensively, for daily use, general questions as well as programming, and in general, they are very similar. I haven't noticed one particularly giving way better solutions than the other. Although, according to some sources, deepseek is more effective at processing certain data-sets and is better suited for certain industries compared to GPT. I wouldn't know this for sure as I haven't compared the two within this context.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Now, I'm not usually a conspiracy theorist, so could someone explain to me why do these types of hallucinations occur? ( if they are ) When asked many times how to install "him" locally / run offline or where to find the source code, I would get the response that as an AI model based on GPT-4 developed by OpenAI, it's not possible to "download" or see source code of "him". When asked directly, why does he think he is OpenAI model, he would fix himself, usually without thinking ( which led me to beleive that there is some censorship ) and claim that he never said that he is based on GPT-4. When asked if he is anyhow tied to OpenAI, the response would be along the lines: "Let's talk about something else".

May 13, 2025 - Aata, it also cleared up my doubt, so, in the world of iPhones (Chatgpt, Gemini and Copilot) DeepSeek is an Android. Awesome. ... Basically, it means that the source code of a software is publicly accessible. ... No. It's a good tool, but it still doesn't beat chat gpt.

r/OpenAI on Reddit: Why so much hype for DeepSeek? Is it actually better than ChatGPT??

So like I keep seeing DeepSeek AI everywhere now like on Reddit, YouTube, Twitter and all and some of them were saying it's ChatGPT killer but like I don’t get what’s so special about it like Is it actually that good or is it just another AI trend that’ll fade away soon? And I tried using it and yeah ofc it seems better than Meta AI or Gemini but like it’s not as good as GPT and It responds kinda slow sometimes and a few times I got errors bcoz of high traffic so like imo it’s decent but I don’t really see it replacing ChatGPT or anything but maybe in the future if they work more on it since it's a new company so there's a hope and I saw that it’s open source which is really a good thing and it's supposed to be really good at like research and reasoning but does that actually make a difference for normal use? Like is it actually better for casual chats, writing and coding or is it only good for technical things? And since it’s made in China so do they have any censorship and all? Like does it avoid certain topics or something? I even tried asking about China and it seemed kinda biased and even ChatGPT also do that but anyway I just wanna know if anyone here actually tried both and if you think DeepSeek is worth using over ChatGPT like is it really better or are ppl just hyping it up for no reason??
