I'm curious if anyone has found DeepSeek better than ChatGPT. What was your Application? Code generation and debugging. Although tbf it's less "better than ChatGPT" and more "I can keep doing this without having to wait until next Wednesday" I give 4o, o1, Claude 3.5 Sonnett and Deepseek the same prompts. In prompts releated to research, ChatGPT is the best by far, followed by DeepSeek. Claude is the worst but mainly because it can't search the internet. Without searching, DeepSeek takes the last place easily. In terms of writing and explaining Claude takes the cake, DeepSeek and ChatGPT are about par. In terms of code-related use cases, IMO Claude = Deepseek = o1 > 4o I give Deepseek R1 a prompt or a pain point that needs a solution in R or Python, it gives me exactly what I need. o1 will give me what I need but may miss dependencies or skip some important steps and likes to overcomplicate things. Claude needs more handholding and multiple iterations, but it does the iterations better and overall tends to write more robust code than o1 and 4o. But again for me it needs more handholding. Deepseek just gives something workable, straight up, where ChatGPT may overly complicate and Claude overly simplify. Answer from LengthyLegato114514 on reddit.com

I imagine its trendy and cool to hate the big guy, or maybe its astroturfing/propaganda.

But has anyone actually used DeepSeek and got better answers? As much as I want to cancel my subscription, ChatGPT is still the best. Gemini isnt as good. LLaMa is pretty close to ChatGPT. DeepSeek is better than Mistral, but worse than LLaMa.

"Oh its cheaper"

I don't care. I need good answers. Cheaper is someone else's job.

ChatGPT seems best for asking questions about subjects. DeepSeek seems to not know about many subjects and hallucinates.

I'm curious if anyone has found DeepSeek better than ChatGPT. What was your Application?

Please provide what ChatGPT you are comparing it to, I typically use ChatGPT4.

Is Deepseek as superior to ChatGPT as everyone says?
May 13, 2025 - I think DeepSeek's answers are more complete, it tackles the questions from different angles, and when I want something more specific, it seems to know better what I mean. But both give similar answers. ... If you're asking in the context of what the user measures and perceives, I don't know. But in terms of COMPUTER SCIENCE, yes, a Chinese hedge fund made an algorithm that performs as well as the chatgpt, with better optimization, and made the code free, which a non-profit company didn't do and still charges an SLA for how many $$ to use the best version.

January 31, 2025 - DeepSeek it ….. Fast and No BS ... I’ve been using ChatGPT since it’s launch and though it was great, it’s recently been shitty with document creation and summarisations. Gpt so often start pushing out really shitty text. It’s like it forgets what we’re talking about Deepseek is great at it.

r/singularity on Reddit: Controversial take: ChatGPT 4o is better than DeepSeek
January 27, 2025 -

My main task is data science competitions and research and always resort to any LLM available to ask for code snippets, DS approaches to try, or both. As DeepSeek (R1) is the only CoT free model i decided to give it a try.

ChatGPT produces more sensible results and (with the right prompting) the code works at first try. I can't say the same about DeepSeek. The advice it gives seems better at first, but when implemented, it is disappointing. Not to mention the 1-3 minute wait for the model to argue internally. About that, reading the "thoughts" of the model it repeats the same thing every 100 words.

May 28, 2025 -

I've been trying out both the free versions of DeepSeek and ChatGPT, and I'm curious what others think.

From my experience so far:

DeepSeek seems faster and more concise.

ChatGPT feels smoother in conversation but can get repetitive.

DeepSeek handles code and technical prompts surprisingly well.

DeepSeek also seems more accurate — I haven’t seen it hallucinate yet. If it doesn’t know something, it just says so instead of making things up.

For those who’ve used both, which one do you prefer and why? Especially interested in real-world use like study help, coding, or summarizing stuff.

Let’s compare notes!

November 27, 2024 - If o1 costs the same as Deepseek R1, would you choose R1 over o1? At Perplexity, both o1 and R1 are available with the same usage counts, I doubt anyone would opt for R1 over o1. I hadn't purchased ChatGPT Pro before, but after Perplexity offered their hosted R1 and I tried it several times, I immediately decided to subscribe to ChatGPT Pro.

My two cents: based on IT experience and now as avid user of AI including ChatGTP. For most of us. It does not matter which one is the best unless there is a particular feature or functionality that is critical. My point is : the best tool is the one you know how to use it well or master. You can have the best tool and use only 2% of its potential. If you have a mediocre tool used 80 to 90% of its potential, then the mediocre tool is the best for you. I keep hearing about try Claude for this, Deepseek for that , ChatGTP for x. I have been mastering my workflow over the last 3 months integrating ChatGTP (now paying 20 per month to get extra functionality such as images with no limit) , other AI video tools that probably use chat gtp. Canvas. Adobe with AI. Shopify with AI. And I created my own marketing agency for my small company. The secrete : I know my business.. I will keep watching if there is something out there that offers something very different or better in order for me to change platform. Hopefully this example helps.

From what information has been released in the media, deepseek is considered more 'advanced' than GPT because it was able to achieve technology at the same level of intelligence as GPT, but with much less hardware. In other words, it is much more cost effective compared to GPT. I have used both extensively, for daily use, general questions as well as programming, and in general, they are very similar. I haven't noticed one particularly giving way better solutions than the other. Although, according to some sources, deepseek is more effective at processing certain data-sets and is better suited for certain industries compared to GPT. I wouldn't know this for sure as I haven't compared the two within this context.

r/WritingWithAI on Reddit: DeepSeek R1 vs ChatGPT vs Claude 3.7 - Which is better for refining my writing?
March 24, 2025 -

Hello, I'm an amateur writer looking to use AI to enhance my story while keeping my original "style". Basically, I want to use AI to refine my writing without altering it too much. From the ones I mentioned in my title, which AI model would be the best choice?

I've previously tried DeepSeek R1, ChatGPT, and Claude 3.7, but my experience with them has been hit or miss—sometimes they significantly improve my writing, while other times they make it feel like generic AI slop.

Are there any prompts or techniques that can be used to guide the AI towards following specific directions? Or is there simply a limit to how well these models can assist with creative writing? Any other AI recommendations would also be appreciated!

This is where I feel the prompt is the most important, clearly stating what you want from it. For example (this 2100+ word prompt gave me back about 3k words for a scene: NVM it will not allow me to put the whole prompt in, probably because of some of the words are NSFW or it is too long. Here is an excerpt from the prompt Show Bella waking up refreshed and determined after two weeks of intensive work, mentally reviewing their progress on the Genesis serum formulation while preparing for the day. Use a morning dialogue between Bella and Jeeves to inform the reader it has been an intense two weeks since work began. Have Bella inform Jeeves that today is a big day, they will be testing the new device that she, sarah, and Dr. Evans collaborated on. Jeeves and her discuss the concepts behind the Genesis Accelerator (use the formal name) and how it will significantly reduce the time to get Project Genesis to stage two trials and the overall project completion by years. Interspersed throughout this conversation, show Bella getting doing her morning routine of showering, and getting dressed (show Bella's outfit as professional (pencil skirt, crisp medium cut blouse, stockings, comfortable, but elegant pumps), but attractive in a naughty librarian sort of way.) Show Bella leaving Bella's quarters with Jeeves in silent mode. Show Bella approaching the research facility, Officer Riley Donovan sitting at her security station just past the elevator doors greats her with a warm smile, offering encouraging words about today's test before casually brushing her hand against Bella's in a gesture that lingers. As Bella is about to walk to her lab, Riley coughs politely pointing at her own PID, suggestively telling Bella she did not get permission. Bella rolls her eyes and presents her PID with a coy smile, riley scans it and say you may proceed Doctor Voss, Bella responds with a suggestive 'yes mam', before walking towards her lab, taking a moment to glance behind her, her heart breath catching and with a warm smile as she sees Riley continuing to watch her walk towards her lab. Show Bella Entering the lab, Bella observes her team already at work—Dr. Carter meticulously calibrating equipment, Dr. Monroe analyzing data with cold efficiency, Dr. Harper arranging test samples with artistic precision, Dr. Anderson in consultation with Dr. Evans about the Genesis Accelerator as Dr. Evans and Sarah finish installation of the device and connecting it to various supply hoses and other equipment. Bella grabs her lab coat and safety goggles donning both before moving about the lab. in the center of the lab she sees the containment chamber, airlock doors open (todays test does is not hazardous so lab suits are not required). Sarah notices Bella and approaches Bella, she lets Bella know that the Genesis Accelerator is set up and ready for testing Bella tells her it would not have been possible without her innovative approach and design, Sarah is pleased by this praise (it should be visible that Sarah admired Bella dn Bella respects Sarah (secretly envious, but not in a bad way, of Sarah's easy going direct manner and openness, the dialogue between the two should hint to the reader that they could become good friends), *** While inside the Prometheus institute with the exception of level -1 or below, there are numerous viewing ports or windows. From these and while outside, Jupiter is in view most of the time, use description of Jupiter in such a way as to enhance the mood of a scene or to punctate certain dialogues elements that have great emotional impact, however, do not over do it. Once chapter 3 has concluded access to the Lab level requires both PID verification and a retinal and palm print scan. There is a always manned security checkpoint just off the main elevator access to the laboratory level and anyone entering must pass this checkpoint. In scenes anyone interacting who will be entering the lab, must undergo this check in procedure, present PID, place palm on palm reader, look into retinal scanner, this will confirm their identity and they will then be granted access. If this is not described in the scene beat directly insert this organically into the scene to make sure to maintain continuity (use show not tell and dialogue to help make it feel like a natural encounter). Throughout this scene use very detailed and descriptive language to describe the surroundings in detail, the descriptions should be filled with subtle hints reinforcing the topic of the current dialogue, use full sensory descriptions including senses of smell, touch, taste, and sound, use natural flowing back and forth dialogue consistent with the scene. Use a show not tell style that avoids the use of filter words such as saw, realized, felt, thought, wondered, believed, knew when describing actions and sensations.
