This happened to me last week. I'm assuming USPS does it so they don't get in trouble with Amazon when they know the delivery is going to be late. Answer from harrybuttox91 on reddit.com

r/amazonprime on Reddit: No delivery after attempted delivery

My package was supposed to be delivered the day before yesterday. I was at home whole day waiting for the package because it requires passcode. It’s really FUNNY that when I was putting on my jacket to be ready to go downstairs (I saw there’s only one stop left), I just missed the call from the carrier and got a msg saying that the order couldn’t be delivered. Then I checked shipping status and it showed that they will try again ‘tomorrow’ which is literally yesterday. So I spent another whole day at home keeping my phone nearby and no one came to deliver. Now the status is ‘Unfortunately, we ran into an issue when attempting your delivery. We will try again.’ The customer service is useless and they just tell me to wait or request a refund. I don’t know how many more days I need to wait. Is it normal?

Was the next stop according to the app tracking. Then the van just drove in the wrong direction delivering other packages. About an hour later, the status changed to something like the driver has other deliveries to make on the way (not on the way). Two hours later, van finally circles back and stops in front of my house. I step out to my porch. Driver never leaves the drivers seat. Get a call that immediate disconnects and the driver peels out.

Email comes in moments later to say that they attempted a delivery and my instructions were incorrect. I call support and they claim the driver could not access my property. I have no fence, no gate, nothing. Just a front porch where they've somehow managed to deliver hundreds of orders previously without detailed instructions on how to leave a box on a porch prior to this day. They said I need to update my delivery instructions so they can try again tomorrow. There are no special instructions. The page it takes me to even says it's just a house with no preference on location. No codes, fobs, call boxes, dogs, mines, or security detail. What the heck do I need to update?!

So I ordered something that was supposed to arrive today and I just checked my Amazon account and it says that 'an attempt was made to deliver it'. I was at home the whole day and I haven't heard any door knocks or bell, and there is no note telling me anything.

They also say they will attempt to re-deliver on the next business day. Today is Saturday, so I'm assuming that I won't get it tomorrow. Does this change if you're using Prime; like will they try to deliver it tomorrow (Sunday) or will it still be Monday?

Thanks.

r/amazonprime on Reddit: Amazon Driver Lies About Attempted Delivery
February 28, 2024 -

I ordered a new graphics card for my computer, which I needed for my online zoom interview tomorrow (will just have a black screen without it). The item I bought was same day delivery, and it would arrive by 10pm.

I’m sitting near my door with the security code for this guy to turn up. Look at the map, 8 stops away. On my ring doorbell I see him driving past. I check the tracking again, and I receive the message, “delivery attempted today at 8:31pm”

The driver never showed. He would need to come to my door anyways to receive the code and give me the parcel. I also have footage of him not showing on ring.

I couldn’t believe it, spent 30+ mins trying to contact real support, as they’re mostly bots who don’t help. Eventually I got through.

I explained everything to the support lady who tried to contact the driver. He didn’t respond. She has escalated the situation by speaking to the drivers higher ups I believe.

She informed me hopefully they can send him back out tonight, or if not tomorrow. It’s past the last delivery time of 10pm, so I’m guessing I will have to wait till tomorrow.

This means I will have to go over to a friend’s just to do this interview, because of these lazy drivers who clearly can’t be bothered to drop off a parcel, and would rather get off early.

Don’t think I can trust Amazon delivery again because of this. Amazon really need to crack down on these issues, as I have seen plenty of other posts similar to mine.

Also shout out to the lady on customer support. Was very helpful and understanding. —————————————————————————— Edit for future readers with the same issue

If you have the same issue and need to contact support but can’t find the number, go to:

  • Customer service

  • Click the item

  • Problem with delivery

  • Need more help

  • Request phone call

  • Go through automated system and say “no” to the send message for item tracking details

  • When they ask for any other issues say “yes”

  • When the bot asks “describe your issue” say “customer support” or something along those lines

  • Hopefully the system will put you through to a real person

Hope this helps!

In the over 15 years I've been shopping on Amazon, I've never gotten this text; "Delivery attempted. Unfortunately, we couldn't complete your Amazon delivery. We will try again." Of course, I am eagerly awaiting the Vine items that are part of that order, but more vital are the cat treats I bought for our cat. I ran out on Friday and kept promising him that today I'll make up for it. And now he's REALLY bummed.

I'm just as bummed because I really want those Vine items. After reading about the issues some folks have been having with lost and misdelivered goods (I also check out the AmazonPrime sub,) I'm just a wee bit concerned, though our Amazon drivers have been really good, I mentioned this to my husband, who used to work in the courier and transportation industry, and he suggested they might have put it on the wrong truck since the exact reason wasn't given. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that my goodies will arrive today or tomorrow and that the cat will forgive me.

r/amazonprime on Reddit: We need to demand Amazon provide photo proof of attempted delivery
June 10, 2025 -

Twice in two weeks I'm dealing with "delivery attempted" bs. They keep making up reasons as to why delivery was unsuccessful.

Today I waited outside the building and noticed the Amazon truck pull up. I saw the driver bring in some packages and I asked if that was all the packages. Driver accessed the building without issue. My package wasn't included. I asked if there was another driver on the same route, and was told they didn't know.

Half an hour later I get a message in the app that a delivery was attempted half an hour ago.

The only conclusion I can come to is that the package was never on the truck. We always think it's drivers who are bs-ing, but now I'm wondering if Amazon themselves aren't using this "delivery attempted" bs to extend the delivery date unofficially.

I personally don't mind being told upfront something is going to take two weeks to arrive. But if you claim delivery in one week then use these "delivery attempted" games to extend the delivery date by a few more days, that's straight up lying.

So anyway, my proposed solution to this, whether it's the driver's issue or Amazon playing games, is that we need the same kind of proof that Amazon provides for deliveries to be provided for attempted deliveries. Take a photo of the attempt and include it in the report.

r/amazon on Reddit: Watched from my window as delivery driver marked “attempted delivery” without even getting out of his car. Will filing a complaint get anywhere?
October 14, 2017 -

So today, while waiting for a delivery from AMZL, I was sitting in my kitchen and watched out my window as a vehicle approached and parked in front of my house. I didn’t think that it was the person delivering my package because no one came to my door or even exited the vehicle; they just idled in front of my house for maybe a minute. It turns out I was mistaken when, at the moment the car pulled away, I received a notification that the delivery was attempted on my phone.

I immediately called customer service and they told me that the driver marked that there was no secure location to leave the package—interesting because I just had another delivery earlier today from AMZL while I wasn’t home, and multiple other deliveries with zero issues. The rep told me they would put in a request to have them reattempt, but 9PM has come and gone with no package.

I work in customer service so I get the struggle and try to give the benefit of the doubt, but in this case I watched the whole thing go down. I’m irritated that they failed to meet the one day delivery timeframe, but I’m mostly pissed about the driver’s shadiness.

For those of you that have had this happen or those of you that work/worked delivery for Amazon, is it worth it to file a complaint about the driver’s actions, or is it just an exercise in futility?

r/SeattleWA on Reddit: Amazon attempted a delivery at 5am this morning and called me. Is this OK for customers or delivery workers?
February 1, 2025 - They have to be in order to deliver at Amazon’s promise turnaround times. So yeah, you’ll get a delivery at 5am. They have a lot of other orders to deliver so they have to start early. ... I wasn't awake, and few people are, which means it wasted the delivery person's time (and was very likely to do so), and generally calling people on the phone at 5am is also not ok.

So I ordered a graphics card on February 16th this year. I have prime so it was supposed to come the next day (February 17th, Friday). So everything goes well so far- someone gets the package, it’s sent out (btw this is a package that requires a signature and Amazon has the “code” you give the delivery guy). So I’m home waiting, they’re two stops away. I’m getting happy and then it hits me with delivery attempt, they never came to knock or anything but they did ask for a code over text which you never ever do. it has to be in person. So I believe they wanted to steal it or were too lazy to deliver my package and drove past . So I call Amazon to reschedule my package delivery because I won’t be home. I tell them I need it delivered on the 22nd (Wednesday) and they say alright and change the date. The weekend passes and today it says “Package being processed at carrier facility.” But with no location to which facility. I call them they all give me different answers one guy says it’s today another says tomorrow and the last person says it’s Wednesday. I don’t know if I’ll ever get this package but one thing is for sure: prime is butt. Any idea on what’s going on??

November 25, 2023 -

I’ve been ordering from Amazon Prime for more years than I care to remember, and while they’re head and shoulders above any other online retailer when it comes to reliability (at least in my experience) I’ve come to learn that if a delivery fails on the due date (for whatever reason) the chances are your parcel will be consigned to a dark shelf somewhere, never to see the light of day again.

Can anyone confirm (customers, delivery drivers) that subsequent deliveries are, in fact, attempted)?

AMZL US with their bs again. Someone who knows how this actually works, how likely is my theory? Some lazy ass driver didn't feel like driving a half hour from the city to my suburb town to deliver my package so he just marks it "attempted". There's absolutely no reason they couldn't just leave it on the porch like they do every time, whether it's a box of screws or flat screen TV and I was home during all of the "attempts" anyway.

I am an amazon flex driver (don't hit me, please) and there are two classes of AMZL drivers.

First, there are white van drivers who work full time for a logistics company that is not Amazon. My personal packages are delivered by white vans and I have mysterious things like this happen. A few days ago, my package was marked as delivered but I didn't actually receive it until an hour later. I don't know what their software looks like or what device they use to deliver packages but I assume it's a completely different set up than I use. And so they are able to do shady things like what you describe and what they do to me.

Now for the other flex drivers which are just normal people like me... you have to actually physically be in front of the house in order to deliver or attempt delivery. You cannot physically deliver the package unless your gps is pinging in the right spot. Don't get me wrong, there are sneaky people and lazy people but it would be difficult to pull of what you are seeing without them getting in to trouble.

So I would guess that the person delivering your package is a white van driver. And just as a side note, what you see on your screen is not always what actually happened. I tried to deliver to an amazon locker that was not operable (software glitch) a while ago and the customer was likely told that I attempted delivery and was unable, when really the locker was not working.

My package is floating around out there somewhere as we speak and my neighbor's stuff ended up at my door hours ago. My order is marked as "Delivered" and I've already jumped through all of the hoops with customer service to figure out what happened. I got a refund. AMZL is the fucking worst.

So, long story short, I lost a textbook I NEED for a tutoring job on campus. Purchased a new 70 dollar copy on Friday, rush shipped it for an extra 9 dollars to get here today.

I've been home ALL morning. Awake and home. Have not heard a single knock. My roommates been awake as well. No knock on the door from a delivery personnel.

I live in an apartment complex -- nothing fancy, it isn't fenced in or anything. No security gates. Everytime I've received a package up until now, if it's small it goes in my mailbox, if not it goes in front of my door.

Yet I JUST received an email from Amazon saying:

"Hi Megan,

Sorry we missed you. We tried, but we weren't able to deliver your package today.

We'll try again on the next business day."

On Amazon's actual website, it says:

"Delivery attempted An attempt was made to deliver your package, but the business was closed. Please look for a notice of attempted delivery for the next steps."

I have no idea what "business" is closed. Nothing gets delivered to the apartment's office.

Any help on what the issue was? I am 100% certain no one came to my door. I've been sitting here waiting since 8AM.
