That's a solid notebook, but it is definitely a bit dated as that's an 8th Gen CPU. It should run office applications just fine, you'll struggle with any games that rely on the GPU though. (Games like Stardew Valley should run fine, though) More on reddit.com

Just received the new Inspiron 14 7000 today. I ordered the top of the line spec from Dell Australia on Oct 20th and it was delivered today after being assembled overseas.
First impressions below. It's basically the same form as my 2017 Asus Zenbook 13, but with a way bigger screen due to basically no bezels.
PROS
Screen is really nice - bezels are tiny, decent brightness (although could be brighter), 16:10 QHD is a nice upgrade from my old 1080p Asus Zenbook
Keyboard and mousepad are great - good travel, decent size
Speakers are super loud (although basically no bass)
Nice and fast, quick to bootup
Port selection is decent - TB4 USBC, 2 USB-A, HDMI, aux
Solid build - diamond cut edges, brushed aluminium
CONS
Fans are quite loud when they spin up - also blows hot air on to bottom of screen like Asus Zenbook due to the hinge
Can get quite hot pretty quickly under the keyboard and top of base near the screen
Seems still a little underpowered - noticed it struggling a little under heavy loads e.g. downloading many updates while running multiple Chrome tabs
Battery life is not looking amazing. Right now on "better battery" mode I'm at 75% with 6 hours battery left
Backlit keyboard during day makes letters impossible to see almost, but without backlight is fine. Would have preferred black keys but this is unique at least
Overall though I', pretty happy with it - great form factor, seems fast. Hoping it can play some older games decently.
Ran Cinebench R20 a couple of times. On battery - got about 1360 and then with power plugged in on performance mode got about 1750.

I've had the same machine for an about 5 days now and agree with your summary. Here's mine: Same bug as reported by YouTube reviewers around display auto dimming on battery (incredibly annoying) Fans are loud under fairly little load but changing this in the Dell Power Management app helps (e.g. Cool or Quiet mode) Build quality (feel of screen and keyboard) isn't too good and as mentioned in other reviews it's quite noticeable when trying an XPS compared to e.g. HPs line-up between top and second tier Battery life is great and have had 9+ hours so far (no gaming) Processor and Windows is fast regardless of tasks and what I throw at it Wish it has IR camera for Windows Hello but fingerprint is OK Wish it had USB-C rather than proprietary charging but it does support USB-C charging Backlit keyboard issues as reported EDIT: Almost two weeks in: Multiple BSODs (Code 9f and 15f) As reported in the reply below the laptop goes into sleep/hibernation and then fans whir and it eventually has a BSOD and SupportAssist boot scan finds no issues with the hardware Still haven't been able to fix the auto dimming display (doesn't appear in Safe Mode) so Dell keeps telling me to do a fresh install which I have done and it doesn't help. Unable to cast to my Samsung TV (works fine on Android phone and HP Spectre x360 laptop) Battery life is great when doing light work (10+ hours) Strongly considering returning it but not sure what the alternatives are since I don't really feel like a Chinese-owned Lenovo, which I know is the obvious alternative EDIT 2: Decided to return it based on above issues. Getting an ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 instead. Obviously not as light but better performance and (hopefully) quality control. Costs more but keen to try Ryzen 4800HS and see how it performs plus obviously better for occassional gaming.

I'm considering purchasing a refurbished Dell Latitude 7400 from my workplace. They cost 300 euro, about 320 dollar the specs are as follows:
Processor: Intel Core i7-8665U
RAM: 16 GB
Storage: 512 GB SSD
I plan to use the laptop for school, some light gaming maybe and I also plan to use the laptop for general productivity tasks
Has anyone had experience with this model? How does it perform in terms of speed, battery life, and overall reliability?

Depends on your definition of light gaming. I've found that my 7300 (similar model, just smaller) runs games from around 2011 fine if I crank the settings to low. Casual games are easy on it. Get yourself a fresh battery and you'll find that it'll last you all day if you're doing the basics. You might be able to find it for a little less on the used market out in the wild (ebay, marketplace, whatnot). Most of them tend to go for around 150-175 the last I checked. If you get the choice for the silver or black one, go for the silver. The black is an everything-magnet and *will* catch every spec of dust and fingerprints heading its way. Source: We sell these to companies all the time, and don't get the choice lmao. My own I specifically chose silver, it also feels like it can take a hit better as well.
